Recommend me a tank folder!

That's true, but we are getting pretty high-end on this guy. First Demko now Dalibor! It seems he's just starting to climb the ladder to that level.

Yeah, let's try to keep it under $300 haha. My most expensive folder is only just above $200!

That's kind of what I thought brother. Obviously you know I'm backing the SMF. The Strider SNG has the same genes, and you could find it in your range. It's just one size smaller. Also, to show I'm not that stubborn I'll back the Hogue Ex01 as a 2nd place tank knife.

:) Just thought I'd mention it. Maybe be blown away enough to smash open the piggy bank. The man wants a tank!

I would say Demko, but it's over your price limit and the waiting list is kinda long... I'm on the waiting list to be on the waiting list...

you can find used striders for about $300, but the warranty that you get it's well worth it.

This sounds like a good plan.

So, I've narrowed it down to five choices.

SMF (or SNG?)
Contego
Millie
Tuff
Or something else that I've been looking for but haven't mentioned, a BM 760.

This is hard. :o

I can jump on the Contego bandwagon. Fast deployment, solid lockup, great construction quality. I'd recommend it to anyone.

But I carry my Cold Steels far more often. American Lawman in particular. No qualms about the quality and I could probably use this thing to chock the tire on a semi without hurting it.

Another vote for Strider. They are total brutes, i love my SNG. Next choice would be a Grayman or a Spyderco Gayle bradley. The GB is surprisingly beefy yet classy, its a tank in a tuxedo :)

Good stuff in this thread: Favorite overbuilt folder?

Surprisingly, one of the most overbuilt tank of a folder knife I have is the very high-quality Jens Anso designed Boker Minos made in Germany. Stonewashed titanium handles and frame lock with a 3.1" long stonewashed blade of N690BO steel that's 0.20" thick!

the original Manix by Spyderco and the Lionsspy are pretty tough knives but for a cheap heavy use knife I would use the Cold Steel AK47

Get the Strider or one of the new ZT's. They have a hinderer design 0562CF that is 3.5" with M390 blade steel, and there's also an emerson design, with wave of course. about 240 for ea, and... yeah!

I just tried a dpx gear heat and it's killer. Super overbuilt, quality f&f(lionsteel) great materials, even has the wave feature.

Have you ever had the spring fail on a Benchmade axis lock. It's quite unpleasant (especially if your fingers are in the way at the time). I have yet to have a framelock fail. I'd say a true "tank" has to be a framelock.

I think framelocks are only as strong as the little cutout on the frame, which tends to be around the size of the liner in a linerlock. Also, liners in linerlocks are often steel, while the majority of framelocks are titanium. Both can slide sideways on the tang of the blade. I think, for a true tank, you should look into tri-ads, compression locks, axis locks, and so forth.

This is just my opinion based on what I've heard - I'm still quite new to knives.

Anyhow, some examples that people often mention when it comes to heavy duty folders;

Wildsteer WX folder.

Extrema Ratio RAO (With the pin-screw.)

I think Strider is a bit more of a tank than Contego. I hear a lot of good things about Striders warranty but so I do about Benchmades warranty too. I love my 810 Contego very much but for real tank I would look into Striders or ZTs.

I know it's already been suggested but I'll throw in my 2cents
the cold steel American lawman is a good choice (if you are looking for a cheaper knife)
I would commend anyone who could get that knife to fail.

I've had an 0551, wasn't really for me. Great knife, just didn't click. :)

I've got a Mini Onslaught! Wouldn't call it a tank though. Great knife none the less!
The Mini-Onslaught isn't a tank, but the Onslaught is downright huge.

I really like the Contego. I was thinking about picking up the M390 version, but it seems too pretty to mess up. Plus I've always wanted to try M4. We may have a winner here, people!
The Contego does indeed rock! I barely notice it when it's in my pocket, and that M4 is awesome steel.

I have a benchmade rift and two brouse blades. No comparison the t4 flipper and reloader is way better built!
