Recommend outdoor shops in Manhattan New York?

I really appreciate all the help people, this is great. I have another question about EMS though, I'm staying in th Roosevelt Hotel so my question is, which EMS store should I aim to get to?

820 Route 17 North
Paramus,
NJ

591 Broadway,
New York,
NY 10012

Eastchester Shopping Center
693 White Plains Post Road
Scarsdale, NY

Apologies for being so clueless, I can't get the scale of this city into my head.
Thanks again

Broadway is the one. Only a short ride by public transportation. Scarsdale is quite a bit up from the 5 boroughs of NYC. And N.J. is a ride westbound to the next state! The strip down/ up Broadway is a shopping/ browsing spectacle. You can spend hours strolling from downtown all the way up to 14 St., Union Square park. Paragons is right outside the park. Be sure to visit Strands Book Store, the other side of the park. 8 miles of books, new and used. And some real nice finds (knife/ gun/ watch books) at a bargain price.
March/ April can be quite windy with regular rain fall. Temps are about 20s- 30s. Judging from our recent 40- 50 degree days here, it may be a bit chilly in March...

BTW, aside from AlanAntolpols info, I haven' t personally seen any MaxPed stuff in NYC. The only other place I' d imagine would carry them is New York Ironworks. A real cop shop. And not too tourist oriented. But a huge selection without doubt. www.nyironworks.com

yo N. checked Maxped's ,the only one the Westside P.R. that carry's would call first to see what they have in stock.Your right on with the Walk!;)

Thanks Nakano for the tips:thumbup:
To be honest, I am now thinking that finding Maxpedition gear is secondary to getting myself to these huge shops and taking hardly any luggage with me so I can fill my bags with American made goodies:)
My anticipation of my visit to NY gets better with every post you guys write!
Excellent stuff
Thank you

There is no question that the Manhattan stores will be more convenient. However, you will be paying about full price (still cheaper than UK prices) there.

Do check out the custom knives upstairs at Paragon. Again, their prices are not competitive. But they do have a nice selection.

The suggestion to visit the Strand is a great one, especially if you are looking for books that are hard to find.

Comfortable shoes are a must!
NYC is best seen on foot.
The walk down B'way from the 50's down thru Times Square, Chelsea, SoHO, the Village, Chinatown, ending in the financial district is a treat.
An all day affair... If you make alot of purchases, you'll end up doing it in sections, but still worth while.
Plenty of restaurants, bars and other attractions along the way :D

I've created a new folder called PRIVATE MESSAGES, can anyone tell me if I'm now able to receive PM's?
Thanks for the email JohnG, I'll send you an email or a PM you soon.:)
Cheers

Hey Soup,
I find it funny that you might want to buy things in NYC when some of the best kit in the world is British.
Most of us in NYC buy mail order from discounters on the internet.
let me know when you're in NYC, Garageboy or I may be able to give you a tour.

My thinking behind getting gear in NYC is down to cost as £1 equals $1.77 at the moment.
I agree that there is some great Scottish and English made equipment, but, the cost is high here, for GB goods and also for USA goods, (e.g I paid the equivalent of $88.80 for my Becker Crewman! )
It would be great if I could take up the generous tour offers, but, I probably won't have my work itinerary until I get there so it's not very feasible.
The amount of information everybody has given me so far has been great and I would have had a hard time gathering all this on my own...so thanks all round.:)
And thanks you to Nakano 2 for letting me know what I'll be missing:) :(

can I take advantage of the tour offer too? It'll be my first trip in NY and it'd be nice to have the locals show me around the more famous spots.

Hey SM. Saw your mention of this on you know where, & thought I'd take a look. NY is great! Been there twice now, & want to go several more times. Make sure you find time to go to Carnegie Deli. Queues can be long-ish, but as an experience it's hard to beat! Watch out for the deli's & coffee shops - unlike ours, you don't work your way down a counter - just go to the bit you want & get served, then head to the checkout. It's a bit wierd, but it seems to work. Avoid Cat'z deli like the plague - worst service I've EVER experienced was in that place! Regards R.10mm

If you like pens (ballpoints, fountains, rollerballs, etc.) and related art supplies be sure to drop into Pearl Paint, just a block off Broadway on Canal St. 3/ 4 floors of goodies! Right near the front door is the pen section.

Hey Freezer (I think I know who you are :D )
Thanks for the recommendation, I spoke to someone who tols me to go to Clinton's Bakery as that was the best they had come across. They also told me not to go to Cat'z as it was filthy.
I'm looking forward to a bit of a food tour while I'm there and especially experiencing some world famous sandwiches :)
I've got a bit of a shopping list now which includes Surefire torches and maybe a Benchmade folder if I can find one.
Thanks again to everyone that has posted some advice.
And keep posting if you think of something else. :)

Cheers
