Recommendation: What knofe to buy police academy graduate

Just checked out the lone wolf dist endura, I like it but I just wish it came serrated. Right now I think I'm tossed up between a serrated endura and a g10 police, heavily leaning towards the endura

Another question for the LEO's does a dept ever tell what knife u can't or can't carry as far as blade length, action etc....?

I'd go with the Endura, as others have mentioned(serrated IMO). I have several LEO in the family and they all carry Spyderco on the job.

Yes, it happens...BUT...it is usually in regard to blade-length (no machetes) or some depts prohibit fixed blades...(some don't.) Most common folders at 4" blade and under should be just fine. Doesn't hurt to check in advance.

My duty carry is often a sog flash II, aegis tanto with serrations, or a flashback. Quick deployment. Deep carry. Retention is a big deal. It is an ounces thing to. + With these i really don't mind too much if they get wrecked or dirty. Contego seems like it would be great. The adamas has been great for me if I am working plainclothes jeans but not so much if I am wearing the thinner issue uniform pants. And can't go wrong witht the endura. So many good options.

It depends on how much you want to spend. But, I would go with either a Strider or an Emerson.

A lot of good suggestions. The contego is a fine knife. Might be bit large for some people's taste. The 915 triage is an excellent alternative. A bit smaller but still formidable. The Seat belt cutters BM does are fantastic.

Spyderco Salt, serrated.

The Spyderco suggestions are great too but this^^^ would be the way I'd go with a spydie. If you are going spyderco fully serrated it might as well be a salt. So many different sizes and shapes to fit any application. They are all super lite as well.

Spyderco Police fully serrated

Its been in production for 30+ years for a reason.

My LEO daughter carrys a Sabre ground Spyderco Delica.. And collects CASE p-Nuts!!! John:)

Kabar TDI if her dept. will allow a fixed blade. If she is restricted to a folder I would get one with a "wave" feature. It will serve as a good back up if **** hits the fan and can't get to her backup gun. As for serrated or plain edge, just as long as she keeps the knife sharp, a plain edge can cut thru a seatbelt if needed.

Edit: one that can be switched from right to left depending (or vice versa) depending where her gun side is.

Benchmade Triage Automatic, easy to use and has a carbide glass breaker and a dedicated rescue hook. Perfect knife for first responders and LEO.

I have nearly 30 years in uniformed local LE...

I carried an Endura 4 PE in my right pocket and a Matriarch 2 SE in my left for a good while recently-the Endura PE has been bumped (at least temporarily) by a Cold Steel Black Talon II PE until I see if it has a permanent pocket home.

I will echo all the calls for Enduras or Delicas, and say possibly the waved models also-the wave gives an additional option over thumbing open, and waving is closer to a gross motor skill should it have to be deployed when she is being jerked around, choked, etc.

I don't claim to be the standard on this but I've never cut a seatbelt in my career, but that always gets thrown out about LEO knives. It IS a possibility and if it makes the knife "more justified" then so be it. We have a good medical / rescue "first responder" program in my area so maybe that's why I've never had to(?) And NOT saying I'm not prepared if Friday night I have to cut a whole family out (the Mat 2 would do quite nicely, OR the Black Talon II!)

Also, speaking personally, I always grimace when I read a knife aficionado suggest a popular mainstream or tactical knife that KNIFE NUTS are all in arms about but one that may be too large for a NON-knife person. I think we also want to think OUR current carry piece or our current grail is ALSO the one for them (?) Examples I've read on this and other forums are people suggesting Emerson CQC8s for a person who don't even carry a knife now and don't think they'll carry one (so CLEARLY, a 5 ounce, nearly 1/2" thick knife will just fall right into place  ) or huge kerambits for non-knife folks, etc. Too me and my (sometimes flawed) logic-thin, light, and streamlined might be a safer bet...

Also in addition to others already stated, a small or medium Cold Steel Voyager might be an option...

IF relegated to BELT carry (pouch) a Cold Steel Recon 1 spear point or tanto point would be awesome... (I would not carry one in a pocket though and I'm a big young'un. The BTII is surprisingly light (and I AM a knife nut) so that's the only reason I carry it.

I like the Rescues BTW, I just don't know about the blade style for general use though...

I have never cut one either. Being a bicycle officer my equipment space is very precious. No room for a strap cutter I haven't used in 12 years.

Emerson CQC 15 for years in my left pocket, Swiss Army Trekker in my right pocket, Leatherman Wave and Scrap Yard 1311 in my bag. I have used all but the CQC15...
