Recommendations Extremely hard use

You also might try looking at Condor. They have some very good blades in 1075 that are quite cheap. The Becker knives are very similar to ESEE in terms of what they were designed for, while being noticeably cheaper (most are in the ~$70-80 range). It sounds like the BK7 would be just about what you're looking for (3/16in thick, 7in blade). The BK16 is also a great knife for the smaller size category (~4in blade).

Good luck with whatever you choose, and I hope the finger heals up fine :).

*just know you're not the first smart person to do something not so smart. I have a few good scars from some not so bright ideas I had in my past. The important thing is to learn, and try to teach others, and also never do that same thing again :).

I just want to clarify I didnt cut myself in front of the kids. I actually only wanted a knife suggestion and not this: OH THIS KID IS SO STUPID HE CUT HIMSELF BY KNIFE TESTING.... I didnt teach the kids wrong things, I teached them very basic things ( I didnt teach them to stab with a knife). And im not really into shtf and prepping, I was never in it. So now please I really want to know which kind of knife would be good for me. (fixed blade) Blade length: 8 inches or a bit less.
weighty that its a medium good chopper. The knife is ment for a more wildnerness type of scenario but too urban just wilderness has got the priority. Optionally a good kydex sheath, thats what I prefer, ( I could make one too by my one if needed). And an overall good looking knife. ( I dont really like Esees they seem to me little expensive) And it needs to hold up to abuse very well. I choose a fixed blade because I already have a good folding knife and machete.

Thanks for your help.
:o

I told you, grab a recon scout. 7" blade, almost impossible to break. I have no experience with Becker but I'm sure they'd also fit the bill.

SImmer down with the insults folks, this is NOT Whine & Cheese.

I thought on the bk3 tac tool but its probably "too tactical" for my purpose, dont you think?

Not too tactical at all. The coating helps keep rust away. I was given a BK7, I stripped the coating off and applied a gun blue finish. It's held up very well. The steel has also performed excellently. I put a very obtuse edge on it and have chopped with it, while not ideal since it is thinner than the BK2 and does not have substantial weight. Basically you can modify it to your liking. I would also recommend the BK9 as an affordable chopper option.
If you need something fancy, there is BRKT specifically the Bushcraft and the Bravo series in 3V steel. Or you can go the Busse route which is a bit more expensive than the BRKT offerings.

You dont even know how this happenend. So just shut the .... up. I tested my knife. Now it failed and I want to go over into fixed blades.

On my list: Buck reaper, cold steel srk, zero tolerance 0160, Becker bk3 tac tool. Now I should decide. What would you recommend to me of all these fixed blades. I never had a fixed blade before though.

OK thx anyways it was like this: Its the buck marksman a 135 dollar folding knife. The edge retention is amazing, I batoned thru a 4 inch log without big problems. Only the strap (its the lock) bent a little bit. Months after this I opened the knife and stabbed just for fun. The fourth stab the knife closed. it cut me right in my finger a really nasty cut ( I can post a picture if you want, it just happened yesterday). Today I wanted to bend it back and the strap broke. Im really sad...
If you want I can poste pictures.

Yes, I want....let's see this, since you did offer; the knife and the finger.

Stabbing with a folding knife is idiotic. Yes I said idiotic.

When I look back at the times I have I can now realize I was idiotic.

Busse makes wonderful splitting wedges. Love mine. I use the ASHLE. Keep it in my bag daily. Been used to split wood in an absolute pinch. Still shaved clean...

Stabbing with a fixed blade just for fun is also, IMO, idiotic.

When I was in my very early twenties a friend of mine was trying to stab through two encyclopedias. Yes it was a contest. Yes it was stupid. The knife he used was a SOG Tigershark partly serrated. Wicked sharp. He hit so hard both hand slid off the handle and all the way to the tip. Squeezing as hard as he could the entire length. His pinky was barely hanging. He fell over from shock and we had him rushed to the hospital.

Don't be idiotic.

As I have grown up I learned I do appreciate a locking knife but it only promotes dangerous techniques. Learn to use a friction folder and a sharp edge.

Of those, I think the cold steel srk would be my choice. Now, I live Becker knives, but the tac tool is imo a very specific tool. So I'd you are looking for a tool like that, it's perfect. I'm just not convinced it would be great for your needs. The srk though is just a decent all around mid sized knife. It's not going to be a great chopper, but beyond that it should do fine for most everything else.

This is by far, the most intelligent post in the thread. Any knife that folds in the middle is a broken knife, suited for light duty cutting jobs only. Anything else is self delusional. A knife is a cutting tool, not a pry bar, splitting wedge, ax, or machete. If you are going into the woods, take a real woods tool with you. A folding knife in the pocket is your city knife. We were all young and dumb once, we're supposed to outgrow it and learn from it.
