Recommenrations for a Leatherman Tool

I carry a LM Sidekick, pretty much for the reasons SomeDudeUSA uses the Wingman...

Spring loaded pliers, just right size and weight for carry, great pocket clip, very affordable price.

The LM Squirt P4 is great for carrying because it just flat out fits anywhere. I like the springloaded pliers on it as well.

For basic/all around usage, most of the pocket or full sized Leatherman tools should work out fine. I have a number of them, one for each vehicle, etc. At the moment, the big, orange home improvement store has the Rev model on clearance for less than $20 if you can find one. That would be a good starter and if it doesn't work for you, give it away and get one that will. You'll have a better idea of what you really need.

The rev is a pretty solid took my brother has one. I chose the wave because I needed more tools on it I actually use them

Another vote for the Skeletool. The carbon fiber version looks nice too if that tickles your fancy.

Wave or Charge are my top picks. Those strike a good balance of size and utility for me.

The best Leatherman is the one you actually carry. I made the same mistake 90% of Leatherman owners do. Buy it, realize it's too big and heavy to EDC, keep it in a drawer. A Leatherman that's not on your person is pointless, you might as well put together a small assortment of tools and keep that in the drawer. So, I got a Squirt and I absolutely love it. I keep it on my keys and thus never leave the house without it. It's small and therefor limited in its use, but it's handy for most tasks and certainly better than nothing. Plus it's cheap. Just get one, put it on your keys, thank me later.

I own and have extensively used .
Wingman
Skeletool
Wave
Surge

My personal favourite is .......

The Surge .

It's probably to big and heavy for most people , but I carry it in a horizontal leather sheath on my belt at work ( the important word in that sentence is " WORK " )

The Surge has everything that makes the Wave great , but does it bigger and better .

If you are after a casual - easy going yet still very capable multitool then get a Wave , if you are after a working tool , get the Surge .

I like the wingman. Useful set of tools. I don't like the removable little bits some use.

I have had a couple but currently I have only one, a Leatherman Juice CS4. Its relatively small, pocketable and has a decent variety of tools.

I've had the Wave, Wingman and the Squirt P4.

The TSA was nice enough to relieve me of my Squirt when I forgot to take it out of my bag.

The Wave was nice but big. I kept going back to my old Gerber basic multi-plier so my son owns it now.

My daughter got me a Wingman for Christmas and I'm quite enamored. It has become my go-to and the Gerber is in the tackle box full time now.

For the price, it's hard to beat the Wingman.

I agree with you. Folks seem to like the idea of buying or owning a multi-tool (Leatherman), but you have to carry it or it's pretty useless. So, one needs to look at their actual needs when choosing. What do you actually use your leatherman for routinely? Everyday? For me, I find them generally too heavy for my belt and they drag my pants down somewhat. So, I keep one in my field bag that stays inside my vehicle, but not on me. Trying out the Squirt now. I do use the full size multi-tools, but not enough to justify carrying one on my belt all the time. I keep a regular SAK in my pocket.

Carrying a Wave currently for the large outside blade. However I don't use the saw or files or serrated blade. The scissors, pliers and screw driver tools as second most used compared to the plain blade.

I did like the spring loaded pliers on the wingman but the blade is short, thin and soft. I also don't like the combo blade on the wingman. A good option would be the large plain blade from the Sidekick transplanted to the Wingman.

I'm also enamored with the Wingman. It has a special package opening tool I thought was ridicules, until I used it. I would replace my Wingman if I lost it for this tool alone. It's simply turns those almost impossible to open clamshell packages every thing is wrapped in now days into easily opened wrappings as if the packaging consisted of wet paper. I love my scissors too. [emoji41]

It's light enough to carry with its pocket clip too !

Have only had one problem with a leatherman and was one of there older models. Ending up snapping while using pliers. I have at least 6 of them now. Sidekick, wingman, charge, rebar. All great for tools and durability. Whatever you do don't get a SOG!:p Broke my powerlock or whatever it is first week of owning. No more SOGS of any variety for me as haven't been impressed with there knives either.:thumbdn:

I have no doubt whatever leatherman you choose will be good, just figure out what tools, size, weight you need and go from.there.

Only had one break and I might have been trying to cut a wire a bit too big for the cutters. Printed off the warranty slip from the leatherman site and sent it off. A few days later got a brand new leatherman. Nice

So that's what that thing is for. Good for cleaning finger nails too:)
