Recommenrations for a Leatherman Tool

Folks seem to like the idea of buying or owning a multi-tool (Leatherman), but you have to carry it or it's pretty useless. So, one needs to look at their actual needs when choosing.

You don't have to carry a leatherman at all. You just need to be strategic and have one close by. I have multiple sets of waves with the bit set and extender in my cars and in my desks. I have a skeletool for my range bag because that's all I need.

That is a pretty rational statement and pretty much what I do. I don't carry one like I do a knife unless I know I'll be using it a good bit and need to have it handy.

Am I the only one here who on a weekly basis uses just about all the tools on my wave?

No. Many people that use multitools are not knife people and do not frequent forums in my experience. Most multitool users I have come across work either construction, maintenance, are farmers or game rangers. Though they have dedicated tools for a job they seem to use their multitools far more than one would think.

I use mine daily. Mostly at work. My most used tool for sure. I'm a cable guy. It's always on my belt

I can see why a "cable guy" might want a multi-tool on their belt. One just needs to look at their individual needs and what makes sense for them in terms of carrying. I think owning one or two and having them available is a good thing.

If I owned bear spray, I might only carry it when I am in big bear woods. With bear spray, that means never, but not the case with miltitools. I have one available.

I can see that. For me it makes no sense to just have one available. If I have to go back to the truck I'm not getting a multi tool I'll get a wrench or screwdriver or whatever tool I need. The leatherman saves me the walk and time.

Hello. I'm looking into the wave or possibly the cs4 or xe6. I have a super tool and 300.

The one thing about the wave that's buggin me is the mini eyeglass screwdrivers. I feel I will have zero use for them. Do they get used enough by the vast majority to make it onto a multi tool?

I almost just wish the sidekick had the bit swap like the wave and surge.

I make a lot of custom sheaths for multitools. The Wingman is the most popular by far for what I've had orders for. I'd say at least 4 to 1 to other models if not more.

I too have the Rebar, it's a great tool! I only wish it had scissors on it. I believe Leatherman just came out with a "Knifeless rebar" for people who work in areas where blades are prohibited. It has scissors instead of a knife blade.
