Regrets

I had a Microtech Socom manual from '98 that I got for a song. I sold it to facilitate the purchase of a fancy watch for my wife. Don't regret buying the gift for my wife, but wish I had sold something else, instead.

Traded away a Benchmade 850 Pearl with anodized titanium bolsters. That knife was gorgeous! The pearl was like nothing I've seen before, or since. Traded for a Microtech LCC D/A, which is one of my all-time favorites, just wish I had the BM 850P back. It was a rec.knives SFO.

Traded a Benchmade 42 for a good folding knife that saw way more use than the Balisong. Just wish I'd held out. Those are going for stratospheric prices these days.

I regret buying a Southard and Nilakka.

ESEE Junglas. Loved it but rarely used it. Given limited space and more frequent guests, I couldn't have knives laying on every horizontal surface.
Considered giving it to my father because he loved it. However, I'm still salty about restoring and rehanging a sentimental ax only for him to start chopping roots in the dirt with it...or how he never sharpens his blades.

I have sold just a handful and really don't regret the sales or miss any of them particularly. Maybe my 940-1 because I no longer have the CF scales to use if I find a 943BK to swap the blade into them.

As far as regretting certain purchases, I tend to hang onto my knives as there's something about each one that I find attractive, even if it's not a favorite or likely to get much of any carry. I'd not miss some of the ones I bought early on when I thought $50 knives were the balls (though a couple of those are and still get carried), but selling them for the little money they'd return seems more trouble than it's worth.

I like your quote, Daniel, though I always thought Rutherford B Hayes said that.

I regret procrastinating and second guessing myself on buying certain limited edition or sprint knives. I would sit on websites with knives in my damn cart and then hit back.

Hap40 delica or dragonfly.
Spyderco sage 4
Cutlery shoppe paramilitary 2
Yellow doug ritter mini grip with s30v blade.
To name a few.

My first ZT...
I designed a custom grind that Tom Krein did superbly, and also had a custom red scale done.

That is one gorgeous knife, NDJ! You sold that? Makes we want to cry....

My First Run Benchmade large Rukus. It just didn't fit in my EDC. Awesome pocket sword.

My Umnumzaan. One of the early runs with different jimping, pivot... The Sebenza is also gone now.

Just the last three posts--that gorgeous customized ZT, a LARGE Ruckus (damn!), and two nice CRKs. This thread is turning into a real heartbreaker.

This one got caught up in a rash of selling and trading for new toys. Its a Dozier White River Skinner. This is the knife that I continue to think about as one I should have hung onto...

I have no regrets about selling any knives. My regrets are about the purchases.

Oh man! There are a bunch

2 Z wear and 2 PD#1 SNG's, and a 3V SMF. I only kept one PD#1 SMF and have yet to use it.

CPM M4 Ti Millie. I miss that daily. Probably my biggest regret of all as far as knives go.

I regret not buying an Ebony GEC 421112LB when I could.

Joe
