Regrets

Amen, brother. I hear ya. :D

KnifeAddictAK: To clarify what I mean by the good old days was the posts/threads/shinanigins that occured. As of late, the posts seem to have lost what was posted in the past... Drunken shinaningins, good times and an all around sense of fun and enjoyment.

Fear not! There will always be time for drunken shenanigans ... or shinaningins...or whatever, good times, and a sense of fund and enjoyment. I for one am willing to give it a try! The scotch is just around the corner.

Funny thing about this whole post is that I very seriously doubt that anyone(HOG’s included) has sold a Busse knife for a loss in the last few months (unless they willingly did so). The market will only bear what people are willing to pay so what’s the big deal? Also are ya telling me no one has ever found that holy grail SHSHBB for a hundred bucks on some poor soul’s flea market table and turned around a sold it for say two hundred  “the horror” 100% profit!!! But what the hey, both people win and no one gives a rats @$$ because it’s still an awesome deal. Jerry sells knives to us via his web page and his “ganzas” but first and foremost he has a wife and baby daughter to feed and clothe, Amy, Garth and the rest to pay so I doubt he’s selling knives at a loss. Game Wardens had been turning an easy 25 to 30% profit, again no big deal. Folks were more than happy to pay that, a whole lot easier but not as much fun as trying to play the BCS F5 game. Think of it like an addict, ya buy the stash for you own use but you can always sell some off to buy more INFI …I mean smack. Plus isn’t the troughs motto “No Regrets”???  :D

Micky,

If your above comments are directed towards me for what I said in that other thread then so be it.
I am just a piglet myself and am still learning the way of the HOG.
If you read the complete post then you will see where I wrote it was your knife and you could do as you please.

I also sent you a PM and have yet to receive a response.
My comments are my opinion and mine alone.
I represent no one here and quite possibly spoke out of turn.
I have made no sarcastic jabs in other posts towards you or your sale thread.

Regards,
dave
Mulder,
It wasn't diricted at you or anyone in particular. I checked my email the next day and had over 30 responces. The majority of them saying I had no right to buy something if I didn't intend to use it and was just trying to make a profit on it. This is the second or 3rd thread that has brought it up again. If someone feels that strongly about it then by all means they should post about it. All I ask is that they read the posts already covering the subject. Believe me if I have a comment diricted at an individual I have no problem naming them. If someone has a comment diricted at or about me then all I ask is they do the same.

Amen, brother. I hear ya. :D

I don't know who this is but isn't the impersonation of a mod illegial on these boards. If you are going to post, please use your real handle or one that is recognizable as you. Unless of course you are channeling Jerry while posting under that handle. In that case more power to you and Whats the next model coming out?:D

Hey, you must've seen my post. :D

I know what you mean. Can't even unload those War Boars at 50 cents on the dollar.

micky,

for what its worth, i say you can sell anything you want for whatever price you want. if it sells, it sells. if someone is willing to pay, then its worth the asking price.

i have sold many knives here, some marked up more than others. i may have been able to sell some for more of a profit, i may have gotten too much for some.

like you said, i never saw any hogs say anything negative. heck if i were to list my muddy mojo, it would have been near the same price range, probably 800-900.

if you were to list knives at a high mark up after every offering, you might have some say you are a dealer, and that may be frowned upon.

but listen to those you know and respect, ignore the rest.

..Also are ya telling me no one has ever found that holy grail SHSHBB for a hundred bucks on some poor soul’s flea market table and turned around a sold it for say two hundred  “the horror” 100% profit!!!..
no way man the Big profits are in typewriters.
I bought an old Remington Rand manual typewriter at an estate sale for $1.
Week later I sold it on Ebay for $100 + $20 shipping. So.. what % profit is that?
the buyer even thanked me profusely.. it felt weird.. but good.

For what it's worth, thought I'd put in my 2 cents. I don't see any reason why its wrong to sell for a nice profit. There's no need to give someone a hard time for their asking price, if it's too high, then nobody will purchase it. How many people here purchase multiples of a knife they like so they can turn around and sell some down the road to make a profit? It's a rare thing to find a hobby that can help pay for itself. There's no reason to complain because someone is making money on a knife you weren't able to get. If you're too slow to the trough, then you're SOL! I say don't meddle with anyone's business and let the market do as it wants.

*Note: This post isn't directed towards anyone in particular, just my opinion of the overall subject.

Mulder,
I checked my email the next day and had over 30 responces. The majority of them saying I had no right to buy something if I didn't intend to use it and was just trying to make a profit on it.

You must be joking! That's taking things way, way too far! :thumbdn: To people who would do that? Get a life outside of the 'net and your knife safe.

The whole moral standards of resale are pretty loosey-goosey.

I have sold limited knives, immediately after receipt upon deciding I didn't like it, for exactly what I paid for it. (Howling Fat) I have bought limited knives from someone who knew I was looking for exactly their purchase price. (Desert Jack - Jody/Voracious) Ditto, others have proxy-purchased for me at cost with additional offers from others to do so (Guyon, TonyG, Jaxx, LilFoo, westllen) while I have proxy purchased at cost for others too (Terry Newton a couple of times and offers made to others.)

At the same time, I have sold knives I've owned for a bit in order to buy new knives. A couple of times on ebay (one was to Gravelface, which was his first Wauseon purchase... I created a monster) for somewhat more than my original purchase. A couple of times on the forum as an outright sale but I usually look for a trade first.

There was at least one instance that I was shocked to see how much a rather limited knife I owned sold for... an example of that blade hadn't sold on the secondary market for some time. I immediately put mine up for sale! :D I did end up with a completed deal but it was cash and trade, not the original asking price. The buyer was happy and the details were no one else's business. I heard a lot of bi**hing and whining in the swamp about that one. Part of those complaints came from people whom I see actively selling on the forum for a healthy profit.

I think the place where people get in trouble around here, happens when the perception is you are "flipping" a blade.

1 - No one takes offense if you buy a blade then, upon receipt, decide it is not for you. Sell it. Certainly recoup your funds with some extra for your shipping but, beyond that, it doesn't tend to win friends and fans at the trough/swamp/pound.

2 - You've had the blade for a while. Say 2 - 3 months. You want to buy another piece of INFI. Put it up for sale. How high you price it may postively or negatively effect your reputation. Your reputation will play some part in how others treat you and deal with you when YOU want something.

3 - After six months or so of a blade being unavailable, you may start to see a "market price" established for a blade. A range that a particular knife sells for on the forum. I typically find the last three or four sales... mark mine a little below the higher range and post away. This is viewed as fair by me and I've heard no complaints from others. Again, I'm usually looking for a trade.

In general, a HOG doesn't want to rip anyone off nor do they want to be ripped off. The Game Warden sales have gone EXTREMELY well. A variety to choose from, a lot of trading going on, and market prices established quickly. The quick turn-around on them seems to be seen as generally acceptable since they are most often traded for a missing link in the collection.

What will raise the ire of people and tend to get you blacklisted?? Obviously purchasing a blade that you didn't want in order to make a buck off someone who does. Most of us like to believe we are in this for the admiration and love of the blade; not to profit from another in the hog lot.

Moral?

Help others out. Be nice to others. Not just because they may help you later but because it is the right thing to do.

Don't take all the cookies on a tray; leave some for others. To do otherwise is selfish and no one plays with you then.

Don't whine. It's unbecoming and other kids will think you're a wuss. (You probably are. :o )

Lastly, don't pick out a toy you don't want **just** because you know lil Johnny wants it. That's just mean. No one will play with you later because you are a brat.

What is the little diatribe worth. Far less than I would have made, spending the same time to compose, at my regular job. Take it for what you will.

I like you guys. I will help, given the chance.

Right now, I need another 2 Below.

Cheers!

I Traded My Muddy Mojo #30 to a big time Busse Forum regular to a ZT BM.
Did I loose value...... Yeah. I but I got a knife I LIKED a lot better and made a new friend. I am SURE we will do business in the future and he will be fair.

To me its not JUST about the knives. Would not be much fun to sit around by yourself in the dark with nobody to show off your new blades to now would it?

I wont name names or point fingers. But I have seen rude grabby behavior in the Busse store on GWs and some some of those same folks are trying to sell them for 50 bucks over what they cost. Thats fine, its thier right and I will defend them being able to do so.

But I will not seek them out or extend friendship. I would not be predisposed to give them a GOOD deal in the hopes that someday it will come back my way. With them I know it never would.

Just my thoughts.

I guess the times are changing and I'm not one to change with them

Atleast I can understand drinkin' language :D

Well put PM... WELL PUT!!!

PM, your advise is welcome and well taken.
I would like to say one thing in my defence to those who jumped on me for "flipping" . I stated in my thread here reguarding the sale that I was only testing the waters. The first post below was edited for content and properly so, but part of what it took out was the fact that I was testing the waters and did not expect any one from this board to buy it.

the 2 posts below are the posts from another thread. I guess expecting people to read between the lines was inappropiate. I then withdrew the knife.

If I was short to some of you I apologise. Will I continue to buy, sell and trade on the exchange, sure. Its all good.
NO REGRETS

I will be the bad one

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDITED - Not cool to advertise your own transactions.

I have been trying to buy 2 of everything I get, 1 for me and one for my brother. I showed him my small collection and he was " So they are knives what use do I have for all of those" Some people just don't understand

Edit this wasn't ment as a sale post please dont ask if I am selling anything here or in email. If I do it will be done in the usual manner

Thats my exchange thread, and on a post here at the same time I said I was testing the waters.
It was also to act as a warning so that any of the regular Busse board members would not go after it as they would know what it really sold for origionally. The regular price according to Jerry was almost 800 dollers, he sold it at a discount as a Christmas Special. Christmas is over. I learned on the exchange that you get what you can when you can, no one is a dealer. If you can't beat them join them. Commentaty is fine, details = offer=edit

Hammy if this is inapropiate please edit. thanks

That sounds really good. How is the taste compared to Samual Adams winter largar. Is that a local micro brew?

Nope. New Belgium is out of Ft. Collins CO. They are modeled after the Belgian ales. You should be able to find it in the local grocer. I like their Abbey ales a lot!!

Too much??
