Regular Sebenzas

I have always considered the Large Regular the best edc to ever exist, closely followed by the very scarce Large Original with a pocket clip. So one day I started to think what would I do if I could no longer locate them. I already lost that one large Regular I had with the swedge helping that lady change her flat tire on the side of the road and that really got me thinking. So I am happy to say that after about 3 years and a ton of upgrading and buying/selling I now feel comfortable saying that I have enough Large Regulars/Originals with Clips to last the rest of my lifetime. I am now almost 36 years old and am quite confident that I have enough to get me well into my late 80's. Gauging one at an every 3.5 year average.
Barring no one breaks down two walls in my home to get to my gun safe and then has a forklift to get it out of there :) but I am very pleased. And its funny as all of my Large Originals with clips turned out to be P's as well. Then my Large regulars consists of exactly half BG-42 and half S30V. Only with 2 U.Gs just to mix things up a bit.
It took me a very long time and an exceedingly large amount of money but it is possible. I got very lucky at times as well which always helps but the point of all of this is it is possible my friend. Just be diligent, have the funds available and DO NOT HESITATE! There is no question in my mind that you will be able to find a large Regular but you have to meet and trust the good people here on B.F and when a Large Regular comes up you can jump on it. I would recommend sooner than later as I do not know if you are looking for a BG-42 or a S30V but the prices of BG-42 are rising very quickly and it will only be a mater of time until a mint or BNIB version tops $1K.
So keep your head up and you will find one. We are a small community of collectors here. For example, that BG-42 that sold last week that was spoken of earlier in this post was originally sold to the seller by myself. So we are all connected in sorts and could not get anywhere without some good old fashioned help from a friend. Now the large Originals with pocket clips and just happen to be P's is a different story but as for large Regulars, you will be ok my friend. Take care and I cannot stress how important it is to have the funds available at all times and learn to trust people as the majority of people on B.F. are just knife nuts like yourself. Best of luck and take care my friend.
Sincerely, Ryan
Your post made me think about selling all my other knives and getting Large Regular in BG-42,actually 2 of them(one as a backup):).

The clips are the McGizmo clips and it will fit through the frame of the knife, no need for a lanyard pin. I don't have any of the larger clips just now but I'll send you one of the small ones for the "knife end".

No need for any sort of payment here, it's a gift. :)

Haze-Just rec'd your beautifully made lanyard today.
WOW-It is so well made!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

The more I carry this little gem the more I love it! There are several noticeable differences in hand compared to a 21. One of those is the thumb stud. I don't know if all regs are this way or not but this one has a much more aggressive stud than either my 21 or 25. Instead of just steps cut in the stud they are actually cut into the the stud so the next step up actually overhangs a bit. It makes it much easier to get a purchase on with your thumb because it grabs so aggressively.

The other thing I like is that the spine of the handle is convex and not concave like the 21. It seems to fill my hand a bit better. I can't wait till my large reg gets here tomoro or Monday!

Bought my large, BG-42 'reg' in 2000.
It's still in my pocket today--

Bought my small sebenza BG-42 regular in 2009, just found mine. What a relief. Back in my pocket. Notice some are interested in a BG-42. How much would one sell for new or used?

I remember seeing one sell about a month ago for around $800. can't recall if it was large or sm though.

It was a large. They tend to go for around 800. It's about the bottom end by now though. Some are going for a couple hindered more even.

Lucky guy! Would love to lay my hands on a small Bg-42. Mine is s30v

Hmm, that's what I thought. Kinda sucks cuz I'm a little leary about buying a knife from someone I don't know.

That's kinda funny...BUT I mean no offense, as I've been down that road, myself, some time ago.
My feedback score is over 200, @ 100% positive...which means that I've bought/sold/traded a whole bunch of knives on the Exchange here, with people I don't know. I've had one instance where the fellow didn't like the knife when he received it, so I took it back; refunded all of his money plus a little more, and then paid also for his return shipping.
These are good people here, and perhaps a scuzz-ball or two who is a junior scammer. When you make a deal, state in advance that the knife must be as advertised, OR you WILL return it for a full refund. And, make sure that the seller agrees with your stipulation..before you send money by PayPal as "goods and services."
I guarantee all of my sales.
We have here something called "feedback" so you can check a fellow's feedback score and get some indication of whether his transactions have been positive. You can read the individual comments posted for each of his transactions...buying and selling.
Try to buy from someone who has a feedback score of at least 10-20, preferably all positive (!00%). PayPal is set up to try to defend you, in case you run into a scammer. It may not always work too well, but it is a line of defense. If you run into a "bad" deal and cannot return it, you can warn the seller that you will make him "famous" in the listing of our special sub-forum... Here is the link:

"FEEDBACK: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly!
This is your area to tell about your experiences (Good or Bad) with dealers, sellers, and individuals you've bought, sold, and traded with."

Anyway, sir, I've purchased several knives in mid-$700 range and was perfectly satisfied that they were "as advertised." Later, I sold those same knives with my guarantee...Either like it, or return it (within a reasonably short VISUAL inspection time, with no use or damage...beyond trying the edge with a sheet of printer paper) for my full refund and shipping expense.
I did...once...purchase a knife that had a reground tip, as original tip had broken off. I contacted the seller, who offered to either take back the knife for a refund, or to "make it right."
I have bought and sold several hundred folders here over the last three yrs, from $100 up to $700 plus, and have been completely satisfied on each occasion...other than the one I just listed. And, THAT ONE was "made right."
Sorry for such a windy post. But, I buy with confidence that the item is as advertised. Make sure you study the included pictures, enlarge them on your screen, look at the knife edge to see if is factory or has been sharpened or reground. Ask the seller to provide more pics if you cannot see what you want...some guys know how to sharpen an edge; many do NOT. Some people may be very satisfied with buying a knife that has been sharpened...other folks will consider nothing but the original factory edge.
Look for scratches on the blade, or mars or dings in the grips. Do YOUR homework before purchasing and you should be happy.
Pay attention to the special Latin phrase...translated as "Let the buyer beware."....and you should be happy.
Cheers,
Don aka Sonnydaze

Here's my large Regular, Umnumzaan and large Classic model...all three are favorites which I've kept...

Haze is a great guy, and he does a lot of give-aways like that lanyard.
I just wanted to add that Chris Reeve Knives web-site has "instructions" and diagrams for someone who wishes to tie his own. Many folks use 550 Paracord, but that is often changed to leather thongs or whatever suits the owner.

How is the lanyard tied?
This is a question that is asked quite often and we never mind you sending back your knife if you can’t get the knot tied! For those of you who remove the cord for some reason or those who simply wish to use a different cord, we offer the following step-by-step instructions for retying the lanyard.

Friend, I am over twice your age, but would guess that one large Sebbie would last you the rest of your life. Now, granted that MORE IS BETTER...and I feel that same way myself, but with the Chris Reeve Customer Service...one would really last you.
No kidding. CRK is THAT GOOD.

Surely there are more regulars out there lurking somewhere! This thread needs more pics! Show some regular love!

I bought 3 small regular sebenza's back in 2001 and sold 2. 1 of which had a BG42 blade, wish I kept that one. Would like to buy more but the 21's and 25's just don't appeal that much to me. I just love the handle and blade shape on the regulars. Maybe I'll get lucky to find another to keep this one company. Anyhoooo, this is the only Reeve knife I have now.

Here's a pic of my Small Regular. I carry the small with no clip in the pouch while at the office (dress slacks). I have a Large Regular too with pocket clip I carry on weekends, generally. I have an Umnumzaan for when I'm feeling salty.

Cheers!
