Hello,

Just a quick FYI - REI is currently having a 20% off (one item) sale. You don't need to be a member to receive the discount. The code is 126TAKE20 and it's active until the 9th. This brings the G10 Grip down to a much more reasonable $139.99.

Of course there is a sale now since I bought one of these knives from REI last week. :(

Be careful with that. Some places will return only the cost of the product it's currently selling for, not what you paid for it.

That's often the case when you return without a receipt. In any case, I wouldn't do it because I'm too busy to make a special trip.

I think it's a good buy at $135....but not worth anything over that.

How about $4.99 over that? ;)
I think it's a pretty good price considering what it costs to buy a stock 551 and then buy aftermarket scales. Steel upgrade to boot.

Thanks for the coupon code. That's awesome coupon.
Consider the steel and the handle, I think the price is great with the coupon, but It's over $150 for me with tax. that's a bit too pricey for me. I want it so bad, however...

Agreed, to order a custom Grip with S30V will cost you $160, so that one seemed like a good deal to me. Even before the discount! :barf:

Allow me to tempt you. I have two of the ShotShow G10 Grips and one of the REI G10 grips. These are really nice knives. They're really a complete step up from the standard Grips.

My "journey into nicer knives" started because I didn't care for the plastic handle or 154CM steel on my long-time EDC Griptilian. Ultimately I picked up a Hinderer, which is amazingly nice, but doesn't work super well for me. I'm hoping that this REI Grip is the knife I've been looking for this whole time. Of course I would prefer an M390 G10 Grip for $50, but at $140 this one seems more than reasonable to me.

I bought one from my local REI last week and really like it. I am new to owning Benchmades but had admired them at various retail stores for a long time. But the quality and texture of the standard Griptilian scales was something I never liked. The G10 on these is a very nice upgrade especially with the green anodized barrel spacers. The S30V blade is just icing on the cake.

Sure I wish it had been cheaper (or that I could have saved 20% with this new coupon code) but it is like everything else at REI... full retail pricing but great quality. I also have several REI tents so I guess I've been conditioned to it.

I've been eyeballing this knife for a long time. I only have one Griptilian, but don't carry it much at all except when traveling because I hate the plasticky scales. Thanks for the coupon code. I was able to apply this with a couple gift cards I got this past Christmas, and the knife cost me out of pocket $39.99. :)
Can't wait to get it!

I agree, benchmade can't put more expensive materials in it and charge the same. If the price bothers you that much, buy a different model that has g10 and s30v for the same price to feel happy. Or buy a regular grip and get scales made which will cost more than this one.

Not to harp on this point, but my REI exclusive just arrived and IMO it's well worth $140. The G10 plus standoffs totally transform the Grip. It's a surprisingly heavy knife. I like it far far better than my 940 which I paid around the same price for pre-MAP enforcement. It's a much better value than the 940 at its current price.

My favorite color scheme on these new G10 Grips was the black/red on the ShotShow, followed by the black/blue on the Camp Perry...but I did buy one of the REI versions and agree, the G10 Grips are a whole different ballgame.
