  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Reinhardt Becker Kukri Passaround

Damn Dubz, there is some nice figure in that. Get some latex paint on the endgrain and put it somewhere warm and dry.

Finished up playing with it today. Didn't baton with it, but hell, you know it will. Did do some smaller stuff and I gotta tell you, this thing is not only a chopping beast, it can do it all. A very good design. I'll miss it for sure (only until I make one though).

Here are some big knife tricks that I've picked up and haven't seen posted anywhere before, so try em out for yourself. Most of you probably know these, but some may not.

One of the things about a survival situation is you need safe, easy ways to do things without expending much energy. If you have a big knife, let it work in your favor. A different way to make fuzz sticks is to jamb the tip of your knife into a tree, use that as the fulcrum and lever the knife down. Makes shavings and feather sticks without having to brace the stick against your chest and keeps your hands out of the way. Like this...

When pointing for a stake (or whatever), set it up on something and keep your grip hand at or below the work. You are more accurate and your chops are effortless. Everything vital stays out of the way.

To cut a notch, lay the work down and make one easy chop.....

.....then one cut and you've got it. Takes two seconds and no effort.

I'll give it a cleaning, a little touch up on the edge and send it west tomorrow. Oregon Faler, you guys are going to enjoy this. Mrs. Trade and I are throwing some goodies in with it for our western Beckerhead brothers and sisters. Thanks for including me in the passaround clich.

I widened it out with a side grinder. Yeah, it looks funny but you can get several fingers in it.

Not really. I used a torch. Don't know what that thing is made out of, but it sure smells funny when it melts.

@Tradewater

What thickness stock you planning on Trade?
I might be willing to put my RBK on loan to you for the development of this project.

PM me if your interested. I am interested in seeing how this might turn out.

I'm trying to track down some 5160 in 1/8". Not as easy as I would have thought. Millers Falls has the RBK at .122". I have traced and measured clich's so I'm good to go if I can locate some steel. Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it.

Yep, got it yesterday. I went to lay down with one of my kids last night and was out like a light so I didn't even get to open it. today for sure, my 3 yr old will make sure of that.
