REK Q fixed blade thread

No pics yet but I got mine today. The handle shape and the scallops/notches(?) make oh so much sense now. Flippin' perfect. The blade and overall finish... Impeccable as usual.

Josh, you should be proud of these. I'm glad for the opportunity to enjoy your work.

I don't have a reverse Mummert clip at this point, and I may try one at some point, but I've used a DCC clip in that position for a fixed blade kydex sheath from navman.

What I found is that for me, having the the "reverse" position works well if I carry the knife AIWB on the right side over the inguinal notch. It places the knife / grip in a comfortable position. However, in the right hand front pocket, (for the Duluth cargos I'm usually wearing), the standard placement works much better, and allows the knife to be secreted, and prevents unwanted protrusion of the grip.

YMMV, of course, and the slightly inbound position of the Mummert "reverse" may make a difference as well, where the DCC is aligned with the grommet holes.

The main issue here, with the standard placement on your kydex sheath, is that it will raise the positioning a good deal, and it may cause the handle to sag outward regardless of whether belt or pocket carried. (Chad's leather sheath, (below), allows the standard clip mounting to be affixed higher, which will reduce that potential issue a good deal.)

I ordered a Mummert from Chad, (for the leather sheath), which is going out today...and I won't have the kydex sheath from Josh until later today to experiment with. So it's all speculation on my part at this point.

Josh, thanks for sending the kydex sheath for the "Q"...it arrived this afternoon. Fits perfectly, as expected.

Did some experimenting with different options for carry with the kydex sheath...from pull-the-dot to Ulti-Clip to see what worked best for me with this rig, and found that the most comfortable and convenient option for carry and deployment was using a Tek-Lok for "scout carry" at about 11 o'clock.

Much easier for me to access and re-sheath the blade without having to contort my right wrist into uncomfortable positions.

I'll set Chad's leather sheath for vertical deployment once the Mummert shows up on Saturday.

Loving it.

The mummert clips are awesome. I had an extra reverse clip that I bought a while back so I decided to try it out in this configuration. I’m used to the standard orientation and carry a lot of my CPKs in the small of my back unless it’s one of the larger offerings. I think the Q will be a tad big for that haha. I’ll see how it works in pocket and belt carry but I’ll most likely be switching it out in favor of the standard mummert with a couple of those already in transit.

Thanks for your thoughts!

My Q arrived and all expectations have been surpassed. 🔥

Very eager to throw some fancy leather pants on her…..maybe something like this unfinished sheath.

IMG_8021.jpeg

She’s quite a bit more “substantial” than I’d imagined. That said, I do love ‘em curvy n thick ! 😋 Here’s a size comparison shot with some of my preferred CPKs.

With the blade width being what it is, I wondered how she’d hack, slash, and slice. Albeit, Josh’s hollow grinds and edges are superb.

WOW !!! Most of the way through 1 1/2 inch hanging Manila….and it’s not even remotely similar to a competition chopper !

Slices paper…..effortlessly and cleanly.

IMG_8031.jpeg

Feather stick/ whittling….um yeah !!! OOPS ! I neglected to include that pic. 🥹

How about a green branch chop?

IMG_8033.jpeg

Easy as can be.

Wally absolutely approves !!!

Better clean her up and get back to my “honey do” list.

OK, just one more pic. I’m in love with this knife.

REK Knives REK Knives , Josh, the Quarentine is superb and I dig it in so many ways. Well done and thank you ! 🙏🏼

FWIW,

I did a little experimenting and found that the perfect draw and re-sheathing tension was achieved by moving the top screw down on the edge side. (Of course, it matters how you're carrying.)

The knife is very secure in the sheath, even with significant shaking...and is withdrawn and replaced very smoothly.

Give it a try if it doesn't conflict with your method of carry. (I have the Tek-Lok set up for horizontal carry.)

The more I play with this knife, the more special it gets. What great ergos.

Great posts!! Looks like you’re having loads of fun already!

I have wanted to post mine for a few days but things have been hectic. Here’s my Luna in a couple of bonus sheaths I made that have already found new homes.

What I can’t show you now is the amazing patina the Luna scales developed after making a mess of sheaths. This material combined with the radical milling is just a sight to behold.

Just got mine!

After becoming a CPK fan/owner, every knife I have purchased since has left me feeling at least slightly dissatisfied. That's not the case with the REK Quarantine/Q. It's fantastic!

Such a well thought out, but unique design!

Don't mind the indentation on the backside, I'm pretty sure it's just from testing the hardness. Josh informed me that the indentation was from the rolled mill process; he graciously offered to grind it out if I wanted. I plan to beat this knife like it owes me money, so I declined. That's a guy that takes real pride in his work!

I'm excited to use this! I can already imagine how well it will perform in a variety of tasks.

I'm really impressed with how comfortable in hand it is. Well done! Worth the wait and the price!

Awesome pics EMCEE EMCEE ! Looks like you got right to business with it. Can’t wait to see what sheath you cook up for it! I agree too about it being more substantial than imagined. Definitely curvy and thick which is absolutely not a bad thing 😂

cpirtle cpirtle awesome work as always Chad! Those sheaths look great.
