Release the Kraiken (A Joe P build) NEW Video Page 3

Guys thanks again

Doug I told you so :) thank you buddy

It's on my waist at the NY Knife show as I type this and it's been very popular :)

I loved it. It felt extremely powerful. I don't know much about these but I know my hand loved it.

Interesting thread, a fantastic and well made knife with great WIP pics and also an enthusiastic and interesting video (as usual).

Great solution in regards to the Dyneema.

How long is the blade, pls?

What is the black stuff (for lack of better words) on the metal of the handle just under the hemp line - looks like non skid tape or some crackle-like finish?

Yes, I use a rubber grip tape under the Hemp wrap on the kwaikens. It fills out the handle just a bit. It also covers up the holes in the handle, so there aren't any low spots when I do the hemp wrap. I think Josh Mason told me about using it, it works very well.
I use thicker rubber on my larger Tanto and Wakizashi.

Ben, we need to discuss availability of Kraikens for a certain Southpaw grinder...:)

With 2050F austenitizing I wonder would we need to do triple temper?

It's more about the immediate Cryo soak after quench. I then double temper at around 400 degrees depending on my desired hardness.
I am far from a metallurgist, but I have very knowledgeable friends. Dan Keffeler has been very helpful with all my 3V questions. Nathan Carothers knows his stuff too.

Awesome Ben! This is one of the coolest kwaikens I've ever seen....kinda feels like I say that almost every time i see your work [emoji106]
