RENO Exposition ’08 – Show us what you got; Please!

I will have a hunter that I am doing with Greg Neely. He sent the blade, and I'm working on the handle. It will be for the auction. Gosh I hope I don't screw it up! The blade is a beauty.
Dan Farr
Can't wait to see that one Dan.
No doubt will be very special with you two creating it.

OK, I'm trying to keep up with Jerry. Here's another knife for the show.

It's W-2, hardened without clay. I'm doing some new polishing that tends to frost the hard part and turn it whiter. Handle is some beautiful green crackle mammoth ivory with some small domed nickel silver pins.

Very nice. So is this new polishing method a trade secret that will cost us each a bottle of Cuervo?:D

No clay. Burt just told the steel what to do and it obeyed (he learned how to heat treat from Chuck Norris)

Sweet knife. Great form.

Damascus Southwest. Damascus blade of Interupted Tears of the Wounded. The handle is Sambar stag and mountings are of damascus. I have done a gold inlay in the pommel and the ferrule on each side. I left the natural handle shape, I could have ground the stag till it is more even but liked what nature did with the shape. It also feels good in the hand. This is a classypiece and its the first time I have worked up this type of engraving.Just gold inlay only into the damascus with what was supposed to look like classic lines. I like this one. It will be simple yet real nice.

Thanks for the kind comments, and thanks to Roger for posting the images!

I am finishing up two additional pieces, one all Mosaic folder, and a 1084 hunter that will also be available at the show. Look forward to seeing you in Reno!

Here's a little laminated bowie / dirk for the show. Blade is 416 stainless and W-2 with a nickel silver collar. Ferrule is damascus, and the handle is desert ironwood with domed nickel silver pins.

As a side note, I got a call from Kevin Cashen yesterday and he was rather enthusiastic about how this laminated stuff looks under the microscope. I'll show some pics when I get them.

Some great looking knives in this thread. I love those hamons on your knives Mr. Foster. I also would be very interested to hear/see more about the laminating process. Is it at all similar to the process used by the masters in making Samarai swords, whereby a wedge of softer steel is inserted into the center of a billet of harder steel?

Thanks,
Peter

That laminate piece IS AWESOME! I look forward to hearing / seeing more from Kevin on the subject.

Just finished these up today....not sure how to act now... still have 5 days before I leave, and everything is done! I'll have a total of six pieces available for the show.
