Thomas,

I haven't been on the forum for awhile, but you've always helped me and that is appreciated to the utmost. I wanted to suggest to you a custom job (that I mentioned long ago) that you guys helped me out with...

When you're ZDP-189 Leek came out, I didn't like it because I couldn't (didn't have the means) to sharpen it correctly. I called customer service and they put a Random Leek blade on the ZDP-189's titanium scales.

After using this for over a year almost on a daily basis, I have to say it's the best knife I've ever used. The titanium scales makes it feel like it's not there, but when I need it, the Random Leek's S30V blade comes through EVERY SINGLE TIME, and with flying colors!

My request is that you put this combination into production. I PROMISE you that Kershaw will sell out of these. Customers will go berserk to get a hold of these, and when they use them other people will see that these compete - and best - other knives of the titanium/S30V combination.

The knife is the perfect combination of materials... please pass this on to whoever you need to get this into production.

With all sincerety and appreciation,
RC

Sounds like a winner to me as well. Always nice when someone is passionate about something, it validates the thought process. Thanks for the post and the extensive field testing.:thumbup::thumbup:

Everybody had better put their order in before Mikey swipes them all!!!:D

Definitely would be a great combination, but I'd like to see it with a plain edge:thumbup:

am i the only one whose favorite leek is the standard model?

i just did a comparison today and it blew away my favorite spyderco knives in s30v, vg10, and zdp189.

SO
LUTELY!

I have one of the original Chesapeake Random leeks & love it, except for the combo-edge blade. That is a fantastic overall package that couyld use a little updating:

plain edge = check
modified reverse tanto "random" blade = check
ti-handled frame lock = check

No matter what blade steel, that's a winner winner winner!
BUT I would still like to advocate for something a little special, like SG2 or ZDP or even D2, because think how greal a composite random leek blade would look!

[now for total fantasy time : make it XL with a 3.5"+ blade)

I dont have enough experience with ZDP, but D2, S30V, or VG10 would all be fitting. The least I would want to see is a CB/D2...but a reverse-tanto in dual metals would be HAWT on Ti scales (and probably keep the cost to where more "average fellurs" could buy one or two.

Just my .02
