Request to Thomas W... (everyone else, listen up - this concerns the Leek)

AB
SO
LUTELY!

I have one of the original Chesapeake Random leeks & love it, except for the combo-edge blade. That is a fantastic overall package that couyld use a little updating:

plain edge = check
modified reverse tanto "random" blade = check
ti-handled frame lock = check

No matter what blade steel, that's a winner winner winner!
BUT I would still like to advocate for something a little special, like SG2 or ZDP or even D2, because think how greal a composite random leek blade would look!

[now for total fantasy time : make it XL with a 3.5"+ blade)

fishface5 is the winner on the fantasy mod... I would dig the Random Leek with titanium scales in the new dual-metaled composite blade, also in 3.5" would be amazing...

Now... where's THOMAS W.?

Thanks for supporting the idea guys, it truly is a wonderful knife,
RC

A Random Leek blade on titanium handle? -->

My request is that you put this combination into production. I PROMISE you that Kershaw will sell out of these. Customers will go berserk to get a hold of these, and when they use them other people will see that these compete - and best - other knives of the titanium/S30V combination.

Put me down for one, too!

Now... where's THOMAS W.?
I'm right here.

Thanks for the RL idea(s), we'll kick it around for awhile and see what happens. I agree that any Ti version would be sweet.

On a similar note, we will be introducing a boutique run (1000 pieces) of Random Leek's in a stonewashed 14C28N plain-edged blade (our first knife with that steel), with a standard framelock. MSRP $69.95. Model # will be a 1660TSW. Delivery is scheduled for early Sept.

We felt the 1660TSW was a nice platform in opening up the 14C28N floodgates. It was not a special order from just one customer.

Awesome!

I think it WILL be a great platform to showcase the new steel. The thin edge of the Leek will really let the customer see how good it will cut.

However, if this is meant to showcase the new 14C28N, why stonewash? Don't get me wrong - I love stonewash and will buy several. But if the best new feature about this steel is corrosion resistance, why pick a blade finish that hides staining so well. A plain old satin finish would really let users see how much corrosion it can take.

Well I never gave the finish too much thought, but the wheels are moving forward with this variation, and there is no stopping it now.

There will be many opportunities for everyone to see the qualities of 14C28N, as we will be using a variety of finishes in the future.

I can't wait. I'm really looking forward to the new steel. And a stonewashed RL will be awesome! A few of these will keep me busy until the OD-1 is released. :)

I don't care for "slick sided" leeks -- that's not to say that I don't like leeks, but I want the more positive grip a textured surface provides. My EDC is a G10 stonewashed S30V combo-edged leek (model 1660G10ST). It's lighter than the standard leek and my clip is configured for a RH tip-up carry.

am i the only one whose favorite leek is the standard model?

i just did a comparison today and it blew away my favorite spyderco knives in s30v, vg10, and zdp189.

Honestly?
I have Spydercos in all those steels and a standard 1660 Leek aswell.

I wouldn't say it blew them away in any aspect what so ever. I'd compare the steel to maybe VG10 but not S30V or ZDP at all. The fit and finish is great on the Leek, but still didn't blow away my D2 Para Military. The Pivot out of the box with my newest Leek was a little sketchy. It wouldn't even spring open all the way, with the stud or flipper. I had to take it apart, polish it, DEBURR the pivot hole and reassemble to get it to work even half as good as my Needs Work. So, comparable at best.. I mean seriously, thats one hell of a claim. But don't get me wrong. I love my Leek. I use it every so often about as much as my Para's but to say it blows them away is so far from the first thing that would come to my mind.

I would like to see the OP's combination. But what I would be happy with is just a plain edge random leek. I cant seem to find them anywhere locally and have trouble finding them online. :(

I have to agree, the Standard Leek is a damn nice knife for the money (the 440A was pretty lame, Im assuming you are talking about the Sandvik 13C26 blade).

But the steel isnt Spyderco VG-10 (I like their VG-10) or their S30V (its nice, but not Kershaw level), and it definitely isnt CM D2 or ZDP.
