I'm a photographer for a living. Mainly nature (landscapes, wildlife, etc.), but also a smattering of wedding photography and portrait photography. I know a lot of wedding and portrait photographers. Wedding and portrait photographers popularly use a term: "slutty finger". Here's a definition I found for it, online: "A satirical photography reference regarding taking too many photographs at an event or session." Most wedding and portrait photographers are women. I hear them use the term, and see women use the term on professional photography forums, fairly often. I've also seen the most respected people in the industry, both men and women, use the term.

I have never once run across any hint that anyone found the term offensive.
 
lame. im glad i get a chuckle out of this. i for one like sluts in both knife and human form. being 22 has its advantages, especially when it comes to laughing off something that may or may not be offensive to you. thick skin is a virtue.

Oh, and for the record, Jerry, I posted about the ABS variants on a couple boards that were bitching about Busse blades being over-weight boat anchors, and pointed out there is now one well suited to bushcraft (if you ignore all the previous ones). Within 3 posts, someone's vagina turned sideways and fell out over "lack of sensitivity toward anorexic people".

I knew a woman that would throw a tantrum if you said the word "fat" in her presence. I mentioned one Halloween I had picked up a big, fat pumpkin -- talking to someone else -- and she butted in and started hollering about it being "insensitive" to anyone who was in the room that might be "overweight", you know, FAT, like she was. The solution to feeling guilty about being FAT, is to lose weight, not force people to not say FAT.

I have to wonder, everyone here knows Jerry like to make plays on words with his knives, and now you get offended by SLUT? I have to ask, is it because you are one? <~~ not limited to females, BTW.

It's really getting bad, on BF. On the ESEE forum some "guy's" vagina fell out over someone killing a pig with a Junglas. Seems they didn't realize that killing an animal with a knife was messy. Getting offended on such a forum (where they talk abotu jungle survival more than their knives, is like the guys that get offended in WS&S because they talk about bushcraft all the time, but then someone posts about cutting down a tree and making a fire.

WTF? People, stop being offended by everything. Grow a pair, or maybe you're better off on the My Little Pony forums??

I would have to agree with the majority on this one, and can understand why someone would get offended, but I think the nature of this forum and the nature of people are always going to create minor clashes on here. I think first and foremost that the "family oriented" rating of this subforum is more in line to keep "gross" abuse of language at bay (like the 7 vulgar words you can't say on network tv and radio). I think that the Busse forum does a pretty good job at self-moderation, considering that the average user/subscriber of BF probably doesn't use the vocab. of a choir boy on a daily basis. I know there are some people on here that were raised or choose not to curse and to be as pure and clean as possible, but in reality it is just not the norm these days in most media and web outlets. We also all have the choice to participate leave the forum if it gets past our comfort zones.

As far as women getting offended, people have different emotional attachments. If you tell some women that you don't like oprah or that you like your wife/gf to cook you dinner and do the dishes, some women and some feminists are going to dislike you from then on. Some women look at their gender as a "team" and see the word slut as something against their gender as a whole that they need to fight against, and some do not. My girlfriend does not see it as offensive because she has a pretty good sense of humor, looks at life through an individual perspective and does not think that Jerry is somehow calling her or all women a slut through BF.

We all understand what "azz" or "SHTF" is supposed to mean when people on here type it, so if we end up debating every controversial word or phrase on here it will get pretty mundane very quickly. It is never going to be perfect for everyone on here, but I probably would not be on here or renew a membership if the language becomes sterile to a "1984" police state level. Maybe a better solution on here would be to have a digital swear jar on the forum with a monthly lottery!

Certain animals in the animal kingdom can grow very thick skin and sometimes it gets really thick. Examples would be wild boar, a bull, or a rhinoceros. These thick skin types tend to be good leaders and listeners and overall usually possess excellent people skills. Due to their thick skin, they sometimes have a tendency to not care what other's think, not because they don't care about other animals, they are just used to going where they want to go which usually is in the face of resistance. These specimens are just used to swimming upstream while most everyone else swims downstream.

Then there is the majority of animals out there that have skin that varies in thickness and this variation is usually due to the different challenges that these animals face on a day to day basis. An example would be a wolf, which is not born with very thick skin, but after fighting many fights it's skin can grow very thick due to scars.

There are a few animals that exist along with all others that can be very sensitive to their environments. These specimens tend to care alot about what others think and they usually go where everyone else goes. They make good followers. Sheep are a good example of this type of animal. If you poke at them a little too hard they make this sound--baahaahhahhahahha. It's almost like a little baby crying for it's mother--bahahahhahhahaha.

You will all have to excuse me for changing the subject from Tulsa to some insight into the animal kingdom..... or wait, did I change the subject?
