Retractable Pocket Clip!!!

That is really cool, the reason I don't like pocket clips is they always look like something that was thrown on at the last moment, yours looks like a part of the knife.

That is so much better than the Boker. Like apples and oranges. Great job and look forward to seeing it in person one day!

Sorry about that, I meant tip down carry, though I suppose I could easily get used to tip up. Realy inovative design, why don't you send me one and I'll see how it holds up to roughnecking?:D

:D :D  I'll have to see if I have a spare sitting around. :D

I'm glad to see that you came up with it. Play your cards right and you may be able to either keep it for yourself to enjoy on your own knives, or sell the design to a manufacturer. That could be more than pocket change! I see that you have it patent pending, so I'm hoping you've got an attorney to assist you in the application, should you want to go that way. Sometimes I think I have twiddlers diesase. I couse sit at my desk and click that thing one way then the other for hours :o
Congrats!

Yes, the patent was applied for more than a year ago. I, having been a journalist for 15 years, thought about doing it myself--for about 25 seconds. It's pretty obvious that writing a patent is a unique craft--you have to be specific yet vague in all the right ways. I read a few good ones and said, "Time to hire a pro."

I have no intention of keeping this design exclusive to my knives. I designed it with the intention of it being as adaptable as possible to different knife styles. I was always thinking it would be something that a big manufacturer could benefit from most, getting it out on knives folks could actually afford.
I'm hopeful something will come from it that will benefit everyone.

Patent that thing. I have never seen anything like it.

Very nice

Edited to add,

I think we posted at the same time. Its good to hear that you have already thought about a patent. Very innovative idea.

Just curious, does it utilize a detent ball?

Yes. The clip locates in the up and down position thanks to a detent ball at the end of that flexure cut into one of the liners (which, of course, corresponds with holes in the clip in the proper positions.)

Another benefit I just ran into (will have to update my materials). The clip can be worn just as easily with the knife facing either direction. Apparently, some folks worry about the blade opening up in their pocket, so they like the knife to clip in such a way that the blade opening faces the back seam of their pocket. This gets tricky with standard clips because some like to cary on the right, others the left. Thankfully this thing is ambidextrous.

Here's a look at it both ways in the same-side pocket:

Thats me. I have tried wearing knifes different ways, but every time I think about reaching into my pocket with the blade slightly opened on me, and needing more stitches in my fingers (not fun). I will switch to either a tip down or have it face a pocket seam (I usually wear it in my right back pocket)

That design is very nice tho. I will look forward to seeing more of it.

This looks like a potential major advance:thumbup:

Clips are handy but I dislike the way they interfere with my grip or the feel and LOOK of the handle, your proposal obviates these gripes. Best of luck with it and I fine knife too!

i think its a sweet design you should have a pass around and let some of us have a look see or a raffle could sell a few more id like to take a look thats for sure

That ambi clip would work perfectly with Benchmades axis-lock. This lefty loves it.

There it is!!! We have a "Sweet", reference this clip! There have been several "Awesomes", but so far, we haven't had a "sweet" until
:o This clip has now passed the critical basic criteria needed to be successful!!

(I get a kick out of all the awesomes and sweets nowadays. I don't think there was hardly any, if any, when I became a member.

Joe

Damn fine elegant solution.

Myself personally, i wouldn't like the half twist in the pocket.

But i think it has a real place on some nice folders.
It's very nice to have a clip which dosen't detract from the overal lines of a nice piece

I agree William Henry comes to mind
