Retractable Pocket Clip!!!

Joe

Damn fine elegant solution.

Myself personally, i wouldn't like the half twist in the pocket.

But i think it has a real place on some nice folders.
It's very nice to have a clip which dosen't detract from the overal lines of a nice piece

I agree William Henry comes to mind

Steven Penner

Thanks to all for the great feedback. I wish I could send 'em out and let you all try it out.
Steven, I think you'd be surprised how unobtrusive it is. You'd have to try it. To me it feels like a standard clip, only it doesn't move around so much.
Thanks again for the kind words. It's very encouraging since bringing it to be has wiped me out in more ways than one.:o

There is a pen company by the name of Lamy and they do a pen called swift, anyways the way it works is when you push the button at top the pocket clip retracts so you won't put it back in your pocket open! Having said that I will give you your next project... create a knife that once opened the pocket clip retracts and vice versa!! great knife, great work!
Good Things,
Michael

Well, here's the basics of a my new website (it was woefully outdated anyway). Just "finished".

It has a lot more info on the clip (probably more than necessary :) ) and a couple little movies on it ...

Joe, I seem to recall seeing one like that at Blade. I think one 20% smaller would move pretty good. It really is a well made knife. To bad the judges at Blade couldn't figure out how to work the clip. Its not like you didn't have insturctions with it.

I know ... very frustrating.

I suppose they have a lot of things to look at and not a lot of motivation to fiddle with something...especially something quite different.

I was afraid it would be overlooked or not understood. Not being able to show a judge something (and maybe answer any questions) in the 'most innovative' category is kind of a limitation of the format, I think.

Oh well. I'm told the item that won was a credit-card knife. I'm sure it's beautiful work.

Joe, did you take it to blade this year?

I wasn't there.
I planned to go right until the last minute, but was pretty wiped out getting the first six knives together in time to make the show. (Week and a half of 17-hour days and not bothering to eat much). Just couldn't do it. I'm still pretty shaky.
I was very fortunate to have Raymond take one to Blade for me. An associate took the rest and showed them around.
Thanks Raymond and Gary!:)

That is Frigin Awesome! I hope you make tons of money off of it, 'cause it is a great and long awaited design.

so what was the reaction like when they showed them off?

I wish I could see the knife. How much are you selling them for? I might want to buy one from you. Are you going to make smaller versions of it? Have you thought about making a frame lock version? How much would you charge for a smaller one that is a frame lock with a 2" blade?

These are going for $750 with the Eggerling bolsters, Damasteel blade and exhibition ironwood or ivory.

I'm hoping to do some dressed-down versions with Ti bolsters, micarta handles, etc. for a lower price.

I'm going to do a couple fixed blades next (I don't want to look at moving parts for a while), but I'll probably design a smaller framelock after that.

When you design a smaller frame lock version, quote me for one without Damasteel or Damascus. Just use stainless with red linen micarta (my favorite) and let me know the price. If I can get away with assembling it myself so that I can learn the mechanics of it better that would be great. :D

Good design.
But mind how you go, don't work yourself to death or illness, take it easy:thumbup:
