Retractable Pocket Clip!!!

This os certainly a nice clean design and you are to be commended for your innovative thinking and creativity. The whole knife looks very nice. One of the previous responses appropriately described it as "ellegant". My concern is that the clip comes out from the "edge" of the knife and it seems like it would have a tendancy to try to "twist" when in use. Do you think it would be possible to make a similar clip that came out from the "side" so that the knife would want to lay "flat" when it was being carried?

Hi Mark,
Actually it lays flat when in a pocket and doesn't twist around (I suppose it might if you're wearing really loose pants made of something light-weight, but then you'd have trouble with a standard clip there too-namely the likelihood of loosing the knife.
One of the really unique things is that this clip is truly ambidextrous (can be made to face either way in either pocket) and is very secure--much more so than standard clips I've owned--because it utilizes the tension of your pocket or waistband to sort of lock it in place rather than pinching a tiny bit of cloth and hoping for the best.( i.e. It stays put when sitting and running.)
This is because the flat sides of the knife act sort of like a rudder. Even a very small amount of fabric tension (such as pants that are worn) provides great leverage against the twisting action of the clip. It will remain laying flat in your pocket and that little turn of the fabric under the clip just adds to the security. You cannot feel it, it feels like a standard knife in the pocket. If the knife was really narrow, like a pen, it would be able to turn around, but the width of a knife is more than enough to keep it flat.

I hope this makes sense.

You can see a little of how naturally the thing fits into a pocket at the end of this little video:

Maybe I should do little video that shows the thing in a pocket while doing some aerobics or something next. :)

If this clip design to picked up by a manufacturer, my one hope is that it is utilized on a truly ambidextrous knife for us lefties.

Great job, original thinking and great execution. I am sure you thought about this, but what if when the clip was extended out, it was able to pivot, (internally), and swing out so that it was flat against the handle scale and then pivot back flush between the liners to be pushed back in when removed from the pocket?

I did contemplate that early on, but decided it wasn't necessary or desirable since the clip works so well where it is. For clipping in a regular pocket, I believe it performs as well or better overall than a standard side-mounted clip.
