REX 45 Burnt Orange Paramilitary 2 Sprint Run

Reading DTL reps post in this thread, they are expecting to receive more from Spyderco? If so, more should pop up at dealers. BTW, DLT appears to still have v-toku2 Endura.

Thanks to BF member @miltmaldo , I was able to grab one from Knife Plus. First time deal with the dealer. Expected to deliver on Monday but voila got it today (Saturday). The Rex 45 is flawless. Kudos to Spyderco, Knife Plus, and good BF citizen @miltmaldo :thumbsup:

2 things.

1. This orange is unique and almost changes hue from bright orange to dark orange with a hint of peach.
I like it.

2. There’s something satisfying opening a knife and seeing a name like “REX 45” on the side. Like .45 ACP

I very much like that.

That’s not all I like of course. The Fit and finish are flawless, but I’m just enjoying the little things. :D

I used my REX 45 PM2 to cut up fixins for fajitas last night.

Chicken, onion, peppers, tomato. The knife took a little bit of a patina, but not much to be seen after a wash. Decided to go full monty, and did a mustard forced patina to finish the job.

Was a little hard to capture on camera, but here's my best effort from a few different angles. Hope you like. Yes, she's a user...

Spyder: That is a lovely patina job! Did you take the blade out of the handle and do the whole length? What kind of mustard did you use? How does that compare to using vinegar?

That is a damn fine patina, got any tips?

My Rex 45 just showed up!

I’m fairly certain this blade is ground thinner than my satin M4 para 2. Very cool.

Just got mine today from KnivesPlus, my first order from them as well I'll definitely be buying from them again!

Got mine, Ye Ole Cutlery and Gift Shoppe was legit and super fast. This is the sharpest PM2 I have ever had.

It would appear you're correct, at least compared to my other PM2s. I don't have the M4 PM2 but I do have a S30V/DLC, Grey Cruwear, and Red M390. The REX45 is a little thinner than all of them.

Over on the Spyderco Forum we have a Behind the Edge Database thread going. I've done quite a bit of measuring for that thread. I'll use the same format here as we've been using there.

Behind The Edge (measured approx. 3/8" from the plunge grind) / Spine (above hole and just in front of the plunge grind) / Blade Stock

Units are in decimal inches

PM2 Blk S30V/DLC - .0285 / .145 / .145
PM2 Grey Cruwear Sprint - .028 / .145 / .145
PM2 Red M390 DLT Exc. - .023 / .1405 / .145
PM2 Burnt Orange REX 45 Sprint - .021 / .138 / .145

I should note that the edge grind on my REX 45 appears to be more acute than the others. It looks like it's around 15 dps, maybe even less. The others appear to be more like 17°-20°. If the edge angle on the REX was like the others I would imagine that the behind the edge measurement would be even less.

Fantastic, BladeHQ didn't send my email notification on these and I missed out... :rolleyes:Fortunately my KC Cruwear "preorder" finally shipped out today at least.

Surprised the flippers have not started with this one here in the Exchange except maybe one or two.

The new Para 2 Rex 45 Sprint might be sharpest from the factory I've ever received. Well done Spyderco.

I agree. With just a bit of touch up on my part on the factory edge: hair whittling sharp. Nearly as fine an edge as my sharpened PM2 52100!

From experience with Kohetsu HAP 40 kitchen knives, I knew that the Hitachi version of this steel was capable of extraordinary sharpness. Now, from personal experience, I know that the CPM version is also.
