Rick Hinderer XM-18..Looking for a Review

Green and orange were what I was trying to choose between. If the green was an OD green, then I was going to go with the orange!! I will probably GET an orangeon too at some point!! That orange is sweeeeeet!!!

Are they like the Firetacs (the insert anyway) in that you can order multiple colored G10 sides? Then you could use whatever color you wanted that day.

I still havent got a reply back yet on placing an order. I hope to soon. I'm sure their swamped with Blade around the corner. Seeing that orange one makes me want one even more! Does anybody know phone number I might try to reach Rick about placing an order, I'd rather talk to someone in person and I couldnt find a phone number on the website.

Thanks

I received my XM-18 two weeks ago and carry it since then. I choose orange G-10, tumbled handle and satin finish blade. No flipper, not my thing. I think the tumbled finish ti is a very good user choice, You won´t see scratches and wear. Reminds me of the stonewash blade finish on Microtech knives The satin finish is well made, does not cost extra and is my favourite - easier to clean, better against corrosion and looks good. I can really recommend this knife.

Alright! Rick emailed me tonight and made plans for placing an order tomorrow over the phone. I'm so excited about placing an order for an XM-18! I'm really liking this knife more and more.

Thanks to everyone for putting there input in on this thread. I told Rick on my email reply all the good things the BF members had to say about his work and it how it really helped to make me want one of these even more. Not sure what color of G-10 I will go with, I'm hoping Rick can give me some color descriptions and I hope to get my order in before the blade show because I'm sure he will be getting a bunch there.

Many Thanks :D

I hope he has mine at Blade. Or has some there with him that aren't spoken for.

 that would be nice if you could pick yours up at the Blade show TKC, maybe even grab something else off of Ricks table he has brought along to bring home with you, dang it! wish I could go...oh well, I'll just be happy if I get to place one on order today.

Thanks

Yeah, I am keeping my fingers crossed. I dunno how much money I will have, as my spouse is going to be given me some.

I have a left handed one on order with him with the two-toned finished blade like on his web site. It should be ready in July. I really like this knife.

To all of you who have posted here that have or have on order a Hinderer XM-18, tkc, tknife, oldrifleman, runger, barker anyone else here I missed. What blade steel is your XM-18? I was just wondering as I didnt see it anywhere on the website, but I might have overlooked it.

Talked to Rick tonight BTW, super nice guy, and I told him what great things people here on BF were saying about his work, he was flattered. Anyhow, I placed and order! I'm super excited and cant wait to get this knife.

tknife...I was looking at the pictures of yours again, what blade finish and ti lockside finish did you choose, I think I ordered pretty much the same thing except with the satin blade, but I may change it to the matte finish because I am really liking the looks of it.

Thanks all.......Oh, did I mention I'm freakin really excited about this piece!:D

On his web site buried in the XM-18 decription S30V is mentioned. Most of his knives for sell on the various custom web sites also mention S30V. I don't know if uses other metals or not.

Did he indicate how long it would take to finish your knife?

"Did he indicate how long it would take to finish your knife?"

how do you just quote a section of what someone said without doing the above?..........anyhow,

He said it would probably be 3 weeks, maybe 4 after the Blade show. We talked about how busy he was right now gearing up for the show. Honestly I was pretty happy to hear 3 or 4 weeks, I was thinking it was going to be much longer than that. He said it was probably good that I went ahead and got on the books because he anticipated a lot of new orders, he's been getting a lot of interest in the XM-18, I can understand why, this is one of the best looking utility, hard use, and best looking folders on the market right now IMHO!

Its funny you should ask me since I recently asked how to quote multiple authors in the same post. That is messy. Anyway I assume you've noticed the quote button with each post. If so just click the author to be quoted and then delete what you don't want within the quote brackets.

Wow! That is fast. How does Rick want payment i.e. all up front, an upfront deposit with rest on completion, something else?

He usually doesn't ask for any money until he actually starts to work on your knife.

Like everyone else has said, you can't go wrong with one if Rick's knives. I have two Flames, ones a recurve spear point and the other is a "hell fire" tanto. Both are flippers and the action is super duper smooth on them. Once you know how to use the flipper, they fly open with no wrist action needed. The lock up is very confidence inspiring and Ricks fit and finish is outstanding.

Thanks for the helpful hints on quotes! Dont know why I didnt just try that before:thumbup:....hmmm still dosnt look like it worked for me though.

Rick told me there would be no amount due until the completion of the knife. He said he would email me after Blade and when he starts on the knife to make sure the order is the same and I hadnt changed my mind about anything, G-10 color, blade finish, blade shape, etc. Rick was very helpful about the whole ordering process.

I'm considering going with a flipper. I definately like the looks of them and like the functionality of easy opening and as a finger guard, but I havent decided on that one yet. I still have some time to think about it and Rick assured me I could change my mind about any design features before the knife was completed. Is that cool or what:D

Thanks all

Man, I haven't spent that much on a knife yet, but I am really tempted on raising the bar with this one. You get so much for the price.

I have, a couple of times, on Sebenzas. Dont get me wrong, I love my Sebenzas and will probably always have the three I have now, you just cant go wrong with a Sebenza IMO, and my reg. Seb will probably always be my edc knife(well, we'll see when the XM-18 arrives);) . However, I honestly think for the same price of a large Sebbie, you might be getting a little more of a knife with one of the Hinderer models. As said previously in this thread, blade choices, flipper choice, color choice, thats a lot to choose from, and its all quality stuff any way you look at it. Thats just my opinion though. Some would probably disagree.

I LOVE my Sebbies, and will probably buy more. BUT, I am absolutely crazy about Rick's work!! I have a Firetac that is just spectacular!! You can not go wrong with an R. Hinderer knife!! And he is an awesome guy to deal with!!

You know I think those Sebenza vs. whatever thread could be annoying, but I would like to know the fit and finish of the XM-18 compared to the Sebbie. Everyone compares top knives the the Sebbie for a reason I guess.
