Rick Hinderer XM-18..Looking for a Review

Well....I keep hoping someone has come home from the Blade show with a new XM-18 and they want to post some pics or share with us how great Ricks stuff looked at the show. Anyone handle some of his work...I'm anxious to here some more positive feedback on the XM as well as Ricks other work. Still patiently awaiting notification from Rick that mine is in the batch he has started working on.:D  ;)

Many Thanks

I am with jryan76. I have an order in now for a green handle. Houwer, every orange handle one I see I love, so I may switch it. Lets see some pictures!!! :)

I got an XM-18 with a 3 1/2 inch blade, and orange G-10!! I LOVE it!! Yes, I WILL be posting pix soon. I also still have an order for a lime green XM-18 w/ a 3 inch blade!!

Well my plans to get to the Blade Show failed. I was hoping to handle one of Rick's knives since its kind of hard to buy a $400 knife sight unseen.

Is there anybody in the MS Gulfcoast, Mobile, AL, or Memphis, TN areas with one that wouldn't mind showing it off? Anyone?

Nice!!!Congrats on that baby:thumbup: , cant wait to see it. Did you have to special order the lime green 3 inch blade, I didnt know Rick did 3 inch blades, mine was 3.5 inches as I have seen others post. I might want to consider the 3 inch blade:)

Thanks

Yeah. I am also considering a 3", it a size that I prefer, not that I would get rid of my 3.5". Steven

Is the lengths of the handle also different and how big are the for a 3"/3,5" bladed knife and is the 3" also with a spanto blade?

The 3" with a 4" handle looks to me as a great edc working knife. My William Henry Titan for the slicing and the XM-18 for heavy cutting.

I just e-mailed Rick with the same question regarding my order, hopefully he'll have the time to get back to me soon and then I will share what he has to say...or if anyone already knows that would be even better:thumbup:

Well, the 3 inch XM-18 came about because I asked for a Spark, and it had a 3 inch blade. But, he no longer makes that model, and said I would probably like his new model, which turned out to be the XM-18, and he said it can be done in a 3 inch blade. SO, that is how I came to get a 3 inch XM-18, and therefore YOU can get a 3 inch XM-18. I LOVE the orange!! I really want a green one too. So, since he didn't have any 3 inch XM-18's, I said I would still like one. I believe that the handles are the same length no matter what size the blade is on the XM-18. If I am wrong, PLEASE correct me!!! You guys WILL LOVE your XM-18's when you get them!!

TKC....Thanks for helping clear that up a bit. I think the 3" blade and the existing length of handle would be a really good combination as mentioned earlier by holst035. I may have to go that route.

Thanks

Hello Everyone!
First, WOW I finally got back from the Blade show and finally got on here to see what a couple of you have been telling me about...All I can say is how flattered I am with all of you responses!...The XM-18 is hugely successful I cant wait to get these is those of your's hands that ordered them!...I'll try to answer some of the questions that were posted...if I missed any please bring them to my attention...

As for sizes...Currently I am making the XM-18 in the 3 1/2 in blade....I will be in the near future making them also in the 3 in blade ( the handle size IS reduced to match the blade sized, making a overall smaller package)...also the 4 in version will soon follow(with the handle being upsized of course)...

As for options...for the Blade I have a choice of blade style ( Spanto, or recurve tanto)...finish (blasted, satin) my satin finish is NOT a tumbled but a machine scotchbrite edge bevels and hand rubbed flats....for G-10 side I have Black,black/green,black/blue,green,orange,tan, and more as I find the material :).....for the lock side the choice of finish is sandblasted, beadblasted, or tumbled...

I hope I answered your questions but if I didnt or you have more fire away!!! Thanks again everyone!!

Rick,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the forums and answer everyones questions; I think you covered a lot of what people here have been wondering about the XM-18. I for one definately got some much desired information out of your post. I'm also really glad you got the chance to see this thread and see all the great things people are saying about your work and reputation as a custom knifemaker.

Many Thanks and I cant wait till my XM-18 is ready:D :D :D

Rick could you tell us the actual dimensions of the XM-18 handle and overall length sometime for both the 3" & 3 1/2" blade lengths?

just looking by eye i would say-
3.5" would be about 4.25" handle give or take 1/8 of a inch

and i would guess the 3" would have 3.75" give or take 1/8"

the 3" is on my hot list
