Rick Hinderer's Modular Kuboton/Pen copied

Rick Hinderer is One of the Most Stand Up Guys I Know ! It is a Damn Shame this Guy would go to this Length . Rick and Lori Put in Long Hours to Make their Product the Best it can be . People like This Guy need to be Stopped !

He told me that Rick Shouldn't be upset because

I wasn't trying to bash KF mods, just giving you the peoples point of view, who think it's ok.

Unfortunately, this says alot for those that don't depend on their ingenuity for their livelyhood. I hesitate to post on this particular subject, but find myself pi$$ed as in my own designs, I absolutely try to go out of my way to avoid others designs and do it with my own style. I myself appreciate the heads up as I would have no other means to know this if it wasn't posted.

and the "new" maker has attempted to split some hairs and define his product as something entirely different.

That kind of chicken-or-the-egg argument on the part of Swissbianco shouldn't pass the smell test with anyone. The whole point of Rick's modular set is that it can be whatever the user wants it to be. It has equally strong capabilities all the way around. Whatever it may have started out as is irrelevant because in a few minutes you can change it around entirely with whatever pieces you've got. It's sad, but not surprising these days, to see that this type of behavior hit upon Rick's work.

After reading SwissBianco's reply to Rick Hinderer's claim, SwissBianco comes off as sort of a jackass, not sure if thats the language barrier, but he definetly copied Rick's pen/kubaton. I haven't bought one yet but it's been on my list for awhile. I've seen bianco's stuff before but had no idea he ripped off the hide-a-knife too.

To "those of us" (********* and this has to do with them as makers and NOT members of any forum!!!!!!!!********)
They obviously are not knife makers. They obviously are not true members of the knife world. They obviously have not a clue and they obviously have no ethics and clearly lack balls, or "those of us" would have been a list of names of makers and not just "those of us" that have no problem with their work counterfeited and maybe sold at 1/10 the price "those of them" need to charge just to break even.

I am sure "those of us" at the very least are reading this thread, maybe they will let "those of us" who think this is nothing short of counterfeiting hear more of "their" opinions so we can offer more of "ours".

Again; this has nothing to do with where "those of them" post but just with what "they" had/have to say!!!

I just can't believe that any "knifenut" hasn't heard of Rick Hinderer. Is it possible to love knives and not at least know about the XM-18 (Which I'm STILL trying to get my hands on)?

My post was certainly not meant to criticize someone because they are a member of another forum, or to attack another forum. It was in response to what I found to be a totally uncalled for belittling of Rick's feelings about having his design ripped off. My comment would have been the same no matter who had made that statement.

Could swissbianco have come up with his design without having seen Rick's? It is a possibility, but given his previous record for using other people's designs, I doubt it very much. He has changed the look, but has taken the basic design elements and used them without getting Rick's approval. If Rick has that design patented, he should send swissbianco a cease and desist letter. Even if the design isn't patented, there's a good chance that it is protected by Copyright.

Do a little search on swissbianco and you will find that Rick is not the only one he has copied. There are several knifemakers who have had their designs ripped off without any compensation.

If you really want to do something about this issue, let your dollars do the talking.

I did just that; a search of "swissbianco" and discovered that he classifies knife designs as "tastes" and sees no issue with making something that someone else makes for more money, or because their waiting list is too long and "everyone has tastes". As in the case of Peter Atwood; (From another site)( and MY Opinon!!)

"Peter Atwood made a limited run of Damascus Mini Son of Prythings and EDCF member XXXXX was kind enough to introduced us to the Swissbianco Titanium and Mosaic Damascus Swiss Key Tool". It goes on to say in a nutshell, that Atwood's are simply too hard to find so it is OK for This marooon to counterfeit it and then put his freaking "trademark" on it.

The problem lie with the inability of US Makers to sue non-US makers and have it cost them the big bucks it should.
We can all be "Judge and Jury" for non-US counterfeits by NEVER EVER spending one cent to buy one, period!!! and this was MY last straw:

swissbianco is a registered user of these forums. Has anyone made him aware of this thread? I think it might be interesting to hear what he has to say about this. I think I will VM him a link. I have considered purchasing a custom SAK from him recently. -DT

I have known Rick for years via TKCL, long before he became a household word with us.
He is a good stand up person that I would be in front of, beside or behind. On the other hand the other guy has shown his colors.
Some will argue that no law was broken. Big deal.

It is just not the behavior accepted in the knife community I know.
