Rick Menefee Knives...

My number finally came up again and I had asked Rick for a SB , wharnie blade with acorn shield. And with the same killer mammoth ivory I had gotten on a BP some time ago. I am showing both so you can see the difference in sizes plus the match on the scales. The acorn shield is kinda hard to see, but the more I look at it, the better I like it.

Jim,that's a great matching pair I love the shield, too. I ask Rick how he does those & he says,"Sober" ;)

Amongst all the activity in Rick's shop recently,a visit & delivery, from Custom Leather man Larry Parsons. It is nice to put a face with the craftsman. Ricks straight knives are complimented by the outstanding leatherwork.Take a look, some hunters are getting some heavy duty functional leather, some fancy, too

Hi Larry

Nice beaver tail! I get to handle several of Larry's sheaths and they are hard to beat. Bunch of mammoth over on the right bench. Someone is going to be very happy.

Larry is one of the best craftman i have been around. I have used him for years and theyer wont be another sheath maker used thru my shop until he dies. Larry also has a large custom slip-joint collection. He really likes J.B. Moore knifes

Rick was busy hunting and knew that I didn't need my knife until just before Christmas, but he's almost done and wanted me to post some more photos.

Rick sent me a bunch more pictures and my knife is DONE! :D

Here are the photos with Rick's descriptions:

Both of Rick's little girls help in the shop. When they were small they slept in a play-pen. Here's Rick's youngest is inspecting bushings for shadow patterns.

More pictures.

Rough grinding the blade. The most important part of the whole process. From edge to spine the blade has to have a smooth taper. Most knives cut; however, to get true cutters they have to be ground thin and tapered properly.

I'm not sure who the mammoth ivory is going to, but I love the looks of it!

Congrats Rob! You are a lucky man. That's going to be incredible. Look like Rick did it again...another masterpiece.

Last set.

Rick finishes the inside of the knive then he puts it together. Then he finishes the grinds and the outside of the knife. This is backwords from most of the other makers but this is what works for Rick. He use .005 phos. bronze bushings on both sides of the knife. This is how it looks before he beats it together.
