Wrapping with stainless tool wrap before heat treat. Keeps O2 out so you won't get as much carburezation on surface of the steel.

Heat treat brought it up to 1250 degree for stress relieve then to 1950 for 30 minutes.

Many blades ago....

My first knife from Rick, was purchased by me in the exchange here,on BF's,from a dealer. It was a linerless jack knife. I spotted a flaw in the mechanics, something that definitely would cause the knife to fail to operate,in the very near future. It got past Rick & certainly the dealer, not me though. I got in touch with the dealer & he suggested I talk to Rick directly, since I asked for the replacement to be a little different.
I did & within a week or so,I had a jack with liners, built by a knife maker who was a man of his word.It was such an improvement over the first knife, that I recognized the talent that Rick had.He improved the design & made a superior knife. It was like a razor ,the blade.I had not seen many knives with blades like his, only from a few makers who were really recognized for a grind like that.
I was impressed, but moreso, just talking with him & of his good nature. I asked him if he'd make more knives. How about one a week Rick ? He laughed.
Now Rick,is a good buddy & not a small guy. He loves knives just like you & I. He EDC's,sometimes,a knife I gave him, that you or I would want a shoulder holster for =). He is always thinking about new patterns. He likes a big knife, but realizes, for the average guy in this modern world,an EDC folder suits more people if it is a realistic size.
Here's where I'm going with this ramble.
We've seen the "Front Pocket",a smaller T Bose BP rendition. His Zulu ,full size,is scaled to 3-7/8",approx.,and recently I posted an even smaller one. He has a 3-3/8" dog leg jack & smaller "Pup Leg" at 2-7/8 " gent size.

Now I'd like to show you a knife that always is a lumber jack's size, brought to you by Rick in a more reasonable EDC size of 3-5/8" approx. This is a fiddleback,a pattern I love, but always seen huge, this one should be a winner.

I really like the way Rick modify's a pattern, the way he thinks it'll be improved.
Good job Rick, keep up the great work & keep making your knives, you have a talent that some guys dream of having.

That's a beautiful fiddleback Vince! I can't wait for Rick to finish my saddlehorn.

AKA Cokebottle, but I really like the sound of the Fiddleback title.
Then there's a beavertail & I'm not sure it's the same pattern,or ??

Thanks for the comments,I know Rick appreciates them.

Fiddleback just has a good folksy, traditional ring to it.

Plus, for whatever the reason, I just picture a coke bottle knife having smooth black scales.

though....This pattern has alot going on with it. The shrink job is masterfully created here,by Rick,in this knife.

Your words about Rick are spot on Vince. He says little, but what he does say and more importantly what he does speaks volumes about his regard for quality and integrity. I see myself as a constant customer of his going into the future.

That fiddleback is the cat's meow. Rick's desire to try any new pattern and the pull it off perfectly never fails to amaze me.
