Ridiculous budget blade-4 dollar Ozark Trails folders, good blade-pic heavy

With the server space dedicated to this thread, we could have bought 3 of these knives with the cost in energy to support this thread alone.

Also, the pivot screws on mine just turn, so I'm gonna have to do it all assembled.

I loosened the pivot a bit and added a couple drops of oil. Now I can occasionally flip it open with no wrist action. If the flipper stud was about 50% longer I bet I could do it regularly.

First, some work on the blade. I thought I'd do a harpoon style.:

Rounded the butt for better ergonomics, since I have sausage fingers. Also removed the flipper tab.:

Decided to keep going on the blade, went with a swoopy clip.:

Put a nice thin mirror edge on it.:

I'm pretty happy with it. It took some work to get an even edge, this thing is definitely not in the running for world's most even primary bevel. I've found this knife's bane though, at least for my carry: the stud sticks out enough, and sits below the end of the clip opening, so that it can catch on your pocket and open the blade slightly when you clip it into your pocket. Dang clip down carry. I will either grind down the stud on the clip side, or just take the clip off. I don't prefer tip down anyway.

Oh, and sorry for the bad pictures. Terrible lighting and terrible phone.

Nice work. I'm thinking of removing the flipper as well given how well the thumb studs work.

We could probably squeeze 25 pages more if we can get CS to test the lock strength of the $3.87 Ozark Trails knife against a Sebenza and it wins . . .
You are not nicegreg, that's for sure. :-D
I admit I would even pay to see such test.

Went by the mart and got one of those $3.87 Ozark Trails knives. Haven't had time to mess with it, may be a good beater knife to cut sand paper.

Had to get an oil filter and they're in the aisle around the corner from the knife bulk-out.

I resisted the last time I was there, but couldn't hold out and wound up getting one.
Damn.
A $400 knife is certainly better, but is it really over a hundred times better?
To the haters: would you go through a HUNDRED of these in your life if it were your EDC?

I certainly wouldn't...

What a thread!!
And, some knut just sent me a Blue&Black tanto!! I am up to two!
Thanks, Dave. ;)

I saw a few of these behind the counter, but I couldn't pass up the $20 Made in the USA Buck fixed blade. It will be a great gift for my little nephew. Might buy another and throw it in the glove box of my wife's jeep.

News flash:

there was ONE left at my Wal Mart.. and it was now $4.97.

get em now, before they break $5.

Damn it, it's probably due to the popularity of this thread...everyone say how much you hate em to drop demand back down before these knives start being sold for $100 on the bay.

That's interesting. Mine literally has hundreds and they're not moving all that quickly. Where are you located if you don't mind me asking?

Maybe, but I'm sure a $40 knife is much more than 10 times better .

At work, I'd spend 100x more time sharpening it than using it, so aside from not getting much work done, it would resemble a toothpick in a few months.
It's probably a great knife if I never needed to use it.

Still $3.87 here. And still a ton of them, though I noticed the aisle display has been thinned down a bit, and the spinner rack is down to only 1 of the blue/black tantos.
