Ridiculous budget blade-4 dollar Ozark Trails folders, good blade-pic heavy

+1 almost looks like a completely different knife! How'd you retexture the G10?
this is what I was thinking of.
MCU163D_zpsr07dvw6f.jpg

Dremel sanding drum digging in the edge going randomly but all parallel , then randomly perpendicular, then 45 degrees and repeat.
So random \ \ \ \ then / / / / then | | | | and -- -- --, then a light sanding to smooth it all out.

I purchased another one of these en route to camping last weekend. Upon arrival at the site, I was immediately asked for my knife and immediately had the Wallyblade to loan instead. Perfect! The newest example has 60% lockup and is much more flippable (with a little wrist action).

Wallyblade now lives in my ever-ready camp box kit as a loaner

With all due respect I just don't see how it is any better than a gas station knife. Yes, it has g10 scales.
Well that's definitely something isn't it? Delicas, enduras, mini-grips, and other flagship models don't use g-10. So g-10 in a $4 is pretty amazing.

But even the guys who have shown appreciation of these knives have admitted that the locks fail. The steel is very very low budget, and the overall construction is iffy. From my point of view, it is still from mainland china, the same as the gas station knives. Therefore I can't see how it's such a big improvement.
It doesn't seem to be ripping off any other knife designs and violating copyright, so shouldn't that count for something? And isn't it more a quality control issue than a design issue? And because you buy at walmart, you can actually return them for bad QC rather than needing to pay shipping to hope to get a refund for another chinese knife...

Edit: I do agree that these will reach their target market, but that doesn't really mean anything. Like I said above, if somebody's first knife was an Mtech and they came on bladeforums spewing of its greatness, they'd be shut down fast. But if somebody's first knife is an Ozark trail, then by all means they're on their way to a Sebenza:)

Heck, if they were making g10 only knives for this price that would be something amazing. Also, these knives don't seem to be pretending to be the most awesome knives in the world, which if you read Frost and Mtech's ad copy, they seem to promise.

I don't see the beater part either. To make a good beater a knife has to be able to withstand a beating. I looked at these twice now and walked away both times. Nothing but junk. 4 dollars? Who cares, they're still junk.

What would it take for you to consider a knife to be worth $4? What performance benchmarks, emphasis, etc. would make a $4 knife worth $4 to you? How many would have to pass QC? Is it acceptable to have a knife that passes QC duties to some degree onto you, where you need to inspect the lockup at the rack, and take it out of the package in the vestibule as you're leaving and spine whack it a couple of times, and if it fails go to customer service and return it?

Order a weighty item such as dog food, rather than buy it already in store. That's nothing to be confused about.

Ok, the knife is worth 4 dollars. If it will end this, I'll even say well worth 4 dollars. The buy of all knifedom for 4 dollars. If all you have is 4 dollars this is the knife for you! Hell of a fine knife for four bucks! Forgive me for not seeing it sooner. :o

What do you think I should feed my mutts, prime rib? Actually Alpo canned isn't bad, the dry isn't very good, though.

Perhaps instead of buying another Hinderer you could feed your dogs something a notch above canned pig/cow/chicken anus. Just a thought.

Maybe I could and I also could have left them in the pound, to be killed or otherwise homeless, since I never take a dog in that isn't in need. As it is I spend about 225 a month feeding them. We also built them a 4500 dollar pen, gee that would have bought a few Hinderers, don't ya think?

Here's two of them playing in the 2 acre pen one morning, they do alright. Now, please stop bringing me into the saga of the 4 dollar Walmart knife I said it's worth 4 dollars. I concede it's a buy at 4 dollars!

I stopped by smkw today since I was passing thru on my way home from work. While in there I was talking with one of the workers on the floor when he asked what knife I had clipped in my front pocket which I showed him was my pm2. Then I guess when I bent down to look in one of the cases he saw the knife clipped in my back pocket, so again he asked about that one. So I handed him the tan flipper, and didn't tell him what it was.

He looked at it for a minute and finally asked what it was, I told him and how much it cost. He was in complete shock, he couldn't believe it only cost $4. He said he has knives that aren't half as nice that are being sold quadruple the price. He said he was going to have to go pick one up just to mess around with.

With prime membership, shipping is free, so I don't get the idea of being concerned with weight and shipping. Additionally it allows you to set a subscription so it automatically ships x amount every y days. I don't think there's any advertisers here that deal in dog food, so I don't have a problem saying this. Makes getting bulk dry goods awesome.

Edit: had a longer reply about how it might lead to knife-nutdom and serve as a gateway knife, but you asked to be left out of it while I was having network issues, so edited out.
