That's a damn nice collection or part of one!

I definitely love AKs myself and pretty much any com bloc shit. I'd like to get a 74 soon, right now I just have my polish AKMS and a wasr.

Planning on getting my first firearm shortly, but haven't quite decided yet. Don't have much experience shooting, but I have the itch. Kind of set on a Colt 6920 to start. I've heard it's a decent all around piece.

It's definitely a good AR and there are some good deals going on right now with them, probably because colt is going bankrupt. Some people praise anything colt puts out though like its the end all be all and eveything they make is the best xxx ever. I can't stand that. But the 6920 is a damn fine AR, that is definitely true. I prefer mid length AR's opposed to carbines though, so I'm going for something like a Spikes mid length or a PSA mid length upper with whatever lower I want. I wouldn't mind at all getting a 6920 though. If I had the money and already had a mid length I would certainly be considering one.

Check around online, I've been seeing the 6920 for around $900-$950, maybe even less..

AR-15 M4 clone(ish) and AMD-65. Both home built from 80 percent recievers. CA compliant of course.

For a first AR Platform, the S&W Sport is no slouch. It's bare bones but is way affordable, shoots both .223/5.56 and is a mid length set up. It's not as modular as other platforms but you don't want an AR to rack up weight like an M14 either. The upper and lower are proprietary to each other but you can put a different fore end on it [I believe]. It's definitely an excellent short-to-mid range rifle.

I didn't read it. One of the Officers I work with made the comment while we were on the subject in the squad room. Apparently the shape of the upper and lower receivers are indigenous to each other. I can double check with him when I see him again if you like

If we are talking about the aluminum receiver S&W M&P 15 Sport, he is mistaken.

Ok, call me retarded.

I couldn't wait to see him at role call so I just phoned him.

I apparently missed part of the original conversation [which I walked into at the time] in which someone asked if the .22 models could be upgraded later to .223/5.56 and that was the "not interchangeable" part I remember in the conversation.

My apologies on giving completely wrong information.

Ok, the ACOG was just for fun - it has a proper scout scope on it now but I'm digging this Ruger GSR in walnut...

Sweet! The GSR has had my attention since the lefty version was anounced.

This thread topic has made me pause, and try to remember how long it has been since I fired any of my rifles. Handguns, and my shotgun, yes, but rifles, well, probably approaching a decade. Easily six or seven years, minimum. Mercy! (I miss being able to shoot on family-owned land!)

Yikes - you need to get out and go shooting right away! :)
