Rike ripping off a Lundquist design

IIRC Wayeah became WE when they wanted to clean up their image.

Wayeah looks like they are still running. I think alot of the Chinese companies relaunched new brands that they wanted to keep as seperate as possible from their parent brands who had a stigma because of cloning.

It would be something I would support if these companies actually turned over a new leaf and distanced themselves from cloning all together. In reality it seems like alot of these companies are just the lipstick that goes on the pig. The polish that goes on the turd if you will.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. Chinese companies do this all the time, and I expect them to continue to do so. Hell, even American companies do it occasionally.

Other than causing some drama, Rike will most likely continue business as usual. Just look at Microtech and the whole Matrix fiasco.

My advice is that if you don’t like something then don’t feed the beast. There are a lot of copycats out there. That is the world we live in. Best thing to do is accept that and move on. If you can recognize and prefer the real thing more power to you:thumbsup:

That's your opinion only. We have a very tight community here, though with 236 posts in 3 years I can see how that fact would have escaped you. No, the actual best thing to do is call these scumbags out when they do it. Period.

Well have fun doing that. That is my opinion. And I don’t see how the number of posts I have pay any revenlance. I focus my time and energy focusing on things that bring me joy rather than dismay. But everyone has the right and freedom to make that choice:)

Your post count has to do with the fact that you failed to understand that as a knife community, we don't take cheaters, scammers, or IP thieves lightly. You'd have known that clearly if you had been a contributing, active member of this forum those three years. That was my point. Now, you may want to put on some blinders and look the other way with a shrug and a "Whelp, just gotta accept it, I want to be joyful". That is indeed your right. Thankfully, the rest of us are here to pick up the slack. I'm glad that that Rike scumbag got caught out and the news is spreading.

Perhaps you'd feel differently if it were your designs, your hard work, your innovation that had been stolen. I wonder.

Well from the bottom of my heart I thank you for being a contributing, active member of this forum. You are appreciated:D

Is Richard Wu at Rike or did this Richard Wu copy it and then give it to or sell it to Rike? I’m not an instagrammer or I would look myself.

I'll probably reserve final judgment until Rike puts out an official statement (which it says it's going to do), but here are the facts we have so far:

Lundquist posts CAD renderings on December 1, 2017: https://www.instagram.com/p/BcK7W_ElTa3/?taken-by=justinlundquis

Rike posts screenshots of EASM renderings that appear to have file names with the year "2016" in them: https://www.instagram.com/p/BoXh2vbAw9e/?taken-by=rikeknives_usa

Of course more evidence is needed from Rike to substantiate their claim, but they appear to be claiming that their design predates Lundquist's. Perhaps in their forthcoming statement they'll be able to substantiate it. I do not have enough technical knowledge to know what it would take for them to be able to prove that their design is from 2016, but if such evidence is available then they should definitely bring it forward.

So, I think the ball is definitely in Rike's court, but in my opinion the jury is still out on this one.

How can two makers make the same designs san's small changes. Chances are slim to none. Doubtful rike is being truthful. Not to mention copying the tropin from spyderco.

I mean the blades are exactly the same. Cha ces of usa maker looking at his designs and stealing them are slim to none.

It's probably standard practice to use old files to make new projects from. Lol

I mean he probably just took one from 2016 and copy pasted the cad file into it.

My thoughts on the thing are that it was done knowingly but not necessarily maliciously. Doesn't make it better, right or ethical for that matter. Same with the Tropen.
Something that went like "Oh that is a neat idea. I wanna do more own version of it." Basically heavily influenced and close to a copy.
He could have avoided it by simply collaborating or asking for permission/giving credit. Crappy thing the way Rike did it.

Question are there production knives out there already whose method of opening is designed like these two. I wouldn't want to place any judgement until both sides have their due say.

Everyone remembers when Kizer first launched and that incident happened for which they were vindicated.

Whose to say then that these aren't DR Madd Maxx ripoffs as they both have the same flipping action. From a design perspective I can see Rikes past anthroporphic designs and this one follows those lines.

Just a question, where Did Lundquist get his inspiration from? He pulled that entire idea out of his rear end all by himself? What was he influenced by? Devine inspiration perhaps? Did he make anything like this before? Is it a natural progression of his existing work? Read my earlier post, Paragon Warlock by Ahville Steel looks like a much more likely candidate.

Also, what did Lundquist make? Nothing. A two dimensional drawing without speciations, mechanism, size or materials. Did Lundquist plan on making a necklace knife? No? Well then Lundquist can still make his pocket knives. Did he ever plan to produce these? No? Well he lost less than nothing. Rike it or not, Rike did all the work and created an actual object.
