Tapping the collective wisdom of Bladeforums- How should this be approached? I would either want the knives Or make sure he's done as a maker. Looks like there's $10,000 of known fraud that I know of- this and the 25 people who put down $100 each.

Perhaps with what he did to me, along with the people he ripped off with deposits we can attract the attention of his local law enforcement.

I wish he would be there . I have a megaphone and a big mouth and I'm not afraid to use it . I don't see the coward showing his face in public as long as this complaint is fresh on people's minds and unresolved , especially if he's trying to sell knives .
 
I'd throw in $10 to Crowd Fund Buying and Hosting Dustin-Turpin-Knives.com to document his ethical problems (to be polite).

Turpin-Knives-Ripoff.com etc.


Tapping the Brain Trust here- What would be the best way \ good way for the OP to proceed?

This one and the 25 people he took for $100 deposit= $10,000 that we're aware of?
 
So.... Interesting development for those still following this saga. This afternoon, out of the blue, Jim Skelton posts in my thread about Dustin Turpin and states that Dustin is making my knives as we speak. I have no idea 1) how Jim Skelton knows this, 2) if it is true or not (Dustin made similar promised to me many times that never proved true). But, this is what he (Skelton) claims. Dustin refuses to communicate with me so who knows what to make of this. Here is the post.

If he is making the final two knives as stated, i really hope he knocks them out of the park for you. You deserve it and I think his redemption is kind of riding on it at this point. Best of luck!

Thanks very much. I hope so too. I am not holding out too much hope - I'm kinda like Charlie Brown and his football at this point; I want to believe but have been proven wrong many times. If I had a nickel for every time I was told my knives were "on the bench" over the past couple of years, I could buy my own Rolex back :) But I will be the first to let everyone know if Dustin makes this right. No one would be happier to be proven wrong than me.
 
Even if what Skelton said is true, and he does in fact "make it right", it's extremely pathetic that it had to go this far.

I'm sure that the only reason he might make your knives is because he doesn't want to face legal troubles with a family to feed at home.

I wouldn't even want the knives if I were in your position, I'd want my hard-earned cash back so that I can support a maker that isn't a borderline criminal.
 
Turpin is done. Even if he finally delivers the OP's knives. Many people will never trust him again. He will go the way of Duncan, Corkum, Obenauff, etc. Not to mention all the other folks whom he has deposits from, and no knives yet will not be happy. His secondary market will suffer and no one will want to pay his prices for a new one........even if he starts to deliver. Turdpin's time in the spotlight is as good as gone for any sensible collectors/buyers.
 
It would be nice. Please Update this periodically as events unfold.

Got me- I wish I had the skill to makes things like this that people wanted. That's why it's mind boggling when the makers flake off.
 
Just to to reiterate in a nutshell:

Dustin Turpin made a deal with a dude. One Rolex watch for four knives. Dude held up his end of the bargain. Dustin Turpin made the guy wait over a year to honor half of his side of the deal. When guy became perturbed after waiting a year and a half, Dustin Turpin tells the dude he's ignoring him because he doesn't want to be bothered hearing about how he's not fulfilling his side of the deal. Dude waits awhile longer and then goes public.

Dustin Turpin tells the dude that he's feeling blue and this guy trying to get Dustin Turpin to make the other two knives is making him feel worse, but still doesn't give the remaining two knives to the dude.

Then, for some inexplicable reason, Dustin Turpin has Jim Skelton tell the dude he's going to complete the two knives rather than manning up and just getting them done.

It seems like the dude has put Dustin Turpin out of business for the foreseeable future.

^ This is a very encouraging news. I have a feeling that this is credible, coming from Skelton.
I really hope that the above is true, & you can very soon have some closure & put this behind you. Good luck!!!

FWIW: if Dustin Turpin ever does hope to put this big ugly mess behind him & turn things around, this would be a good start.
