Ripped Off by Dustin Turpin Knives– Deal with Caution.

Thanks very much. I hope so too. I am not holding out too much hope - I'm kinda like Charlie Brown and his football at this point; I want to believe but have been proven wrong many times. If I had a nickel for every time I was told my knives were "on the bench" over the past couple of years, I could buy my own Rolex back :) But I will be the first to let everyone know if Dustin makes this right. No one would be happier to be proven wrong than me.

lawfor, I hope you get your knives, but I for one would be very skeptical about the quality of what I received from him. Will they be properly heat treated? Or even heat treated at all? Will they be made of the steel as originally described, or made out of some kinda cheapie junk?

Even if what Skelton said is true, and he does in fact "make it right", it's extremely pathetic that it had to go this far.

I'm sure that the only reason he might make your knives is because he doesn't want to face legal troubles with a family to feed at home.

I wouldn't even want the knives if I were in your position, I'd want my hard-earned cash back so that I can support a maker that isn't a borderline criminal.

I don't think that Dustin Turpin "finally making the knives promised years after the original target date" and then only after being called out in public over the extreme delay/failure to deliver, failing to communicate with his customer after he (Dustin Turpin) gets all pissy about the situation and then refusing to communicate at all with his customer, who manfully upheld his end of the bargain YEARS AGO would fall into the category of "making it right".

In my opinion, the only thing that would make this even close to being right would be for Dustin Turpin to make the promised knives AND RETURN AT LEAST 50% of the value of the Rolex was AT THE TIME IT WAS SENT TO HIM. We know that won't happen. I seriously doubt that lawfor will receive what he paid for. He might receive a couple of knife-like objects, but I don't think they will of high quality, and with the thermonuclear detonation with which Dustin Turpin has disintegrated his reputation, I doubt any knife by him that people have been safe-queening will ever be worth a fraction of what the owners have in them. I know I would never pay a dime for a knife by him.

A third party cummunication is classic douchebag. When the orders dry up they realize there isn't an endless gravy train. Talent flushed down the tubes kind of like the guy who played balky on perfect strangers. The little brat got spoiled.

That's why it had make-it-right in quotations, be cause I was quoting Lawfor with irony...

Nothing makes this situation "right".

Only time will tell. The same can be said for other makers, yet their knives are still flying off the shelves in both first/second hand market. This situation could also increase the secondary market price of Dustin's knives, granted that he truly does stop making them. To those that don't care about the drama, it makes his knives more desirable and rare to them.

True. Then again, had Dustin Turpin personally relayed the same information, I highly doubt that anybody (especially OP) would believe him. Coming from a neutral third party, the claims hold slightly more merit.

Hopefully Dustin Turpin does right by OP, and he if would like any semblance of a hope to salvage his reputation, I'd suggest a public apology, sans personal excuses, as well as addressing all those who paid for a book spot with nothing to show for it as of yet.

I don't think Dirtbag Turdpin is physically capable of making an honest apology. Thieves cannot help but blame everyone else for issues they've created.
I'm depressed and you're an A hole is something I'd expect from him.
Kinda pisses me off that he whined to Jim......total coward.
Still hoping lawfor gets squared away.

So.... Interesting development for those still following this saga. This afternoon, out of the blue, Jim Skelton posts in my thread about Dustin Turpin and states that Dustin is making my knives as we speak. I have no idea 1) how Jim Skelton knows this, 2) if it is true or not (Dustin made similar promised to me many times that never proved true). But, this is what he (Skelton) claims. Dustin refuses to communicate with me so who knows what to make of this. Here is the post.

So he's a thief and a COWARD . Letting another man do his communicating for him . I have no problem with Jim Skelton, I mentioned him a few times here because he praised Dustins knives and he has a huge following I was hoping he would hear about this and maybe talk to Dustin or something to that effect .

I'd say that's a good sign though because with all the folks Jim has following him if he posts something and Dustin doesn't come through then Jim would haft to cut ties to save face IMHO.

Lawfor hopefully this finally works out . Maybe ask Jim to look at your knives before you get them ,make sure they are in the same league as his Turpin knives . I don't trust DUSTIN as far as I could throw him and you may get a defective knife . Asking Jim to have a look/do a video before they get to you would be a good idea and since he's became Dustins voice he's involved now .

Ha! Awesome idea, if Skelton would be willing to tell the truth. I've not seen many videos where he's willing to truly critique an item. I think he's mostly just getting free knives in exchange for good publicity. That's just an opinion/ hypothesis. I'm sure Jim Skelton would probably leverage the situation into another free knife if he said the knives were good to go even if they weren't.

And I don't think Jim Skelton does any real testing with any of the knives he videos. He just looks at the final fit and finish, not what makes the heart and soul of a knife. The dude doesn't know how to sharpen a knife. That's kind of crazy for such a popular knife reviewer.

He's involved himself now . If I were lawfor no way would I accept knives directly from Turpin . Knowing his ways Op would get a box of rocks just to get a good weight on a shipping receipt , Dustin brought a 3rd part in best to use them.

I would say Jim is going to get the best example of a knife a maker can make . Because of his following and the fact a bad review could destroy a new or smaller maker I think a maker would be extra careful when making his knives . He very well could get free knives ,he wouldn't be the first and he won't be the last . Thing is as he says he doesn't abuse or even use a knife hard so all his knives are likely to perform well for the tasks he uses a knife for.

Edited: Read Gaston's most recent comment, & agree he is correct. v

Good. Would seem sensible for some of his "victims" to all try to communicate with each other and all contact local police. Then perhaps get together on legal action. This should get Turpins attention.

I do not think this thread should be closed until we see if this Skelton guy is correct or legal action is initiated. I have no doubts this Turdpin guy is feeling the heat because of this thread, I am confident that one way or the other justice will eventually be served. There have been very few times when one of the threads about a dishonest maker have seemed to have such a directly profound timely effect.
To the OP and others affected, I would not wait to take action, just because of what this Skelton guy says. Put your foot on the gas while you can. Turpin deserves no additional consideration. That boat sailed long ago. We need to protect our hobby.

I don't know this Skelton guy. But, I will ask; does he have any financial reason to help Turpin get his act together?
Is cowardly for Turdpin to use someone else to communicate for him. But, I suppose he is too depressed.....

He wants pocket jewelry. Nothing more. That's what he wants. Nothing wrong with that but that means nothing to someone who wants a high performance tool.

He's a YouTube custom knife collector/whatever you want to call it . If you ever watched shop NBC and the watch guy that's Jim , he's into knives now and has a YouTube channel . Has a ton of followers .

I'm one of the ones on the strife deposit list. No communication to speak of from Dustin. I wonder if all of us could go to paypal together and possibly get some action towards at least recovering our deposits?

Can you call the cops? File a class action law suit against him, as there seem to be a lot of you?!

There will be some rather unpleasant legal ramifications coming down the pike if this is not resolved soon.
