Which rock singers make your list of "best" rock vocalist? I'm not talking about # of records sold or # 1 hits... Which singers have made you question your ears??? As in "how did he hit that note?" They can be well known or not so well known.

For me:

Chris Cornell-especially in Jesus Christ Pose(soundgarden) and Four Walled World (temple of the dog)
Ronnie James Dio - especially in Mistreated (rainbow) and Stargazer (rainbow)
Rob Halford - Judas Priest
Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden
Freddie Mercury - Queen
Brad Delp - Boston
Axl Rose - Guns N Roses
David Coverdale - Whitesnake
Sebastian Bach - Skid Row

I'm sure there are several others. Lets see your list.

You got some pretty good ones in there. Halford and Dickinson are Metal Gods ! RIP Ronny James and Freddy, those two were some of the greatest !

I would add:
Tobias Sammet - Edguy,Avantasia He's just crazy good IMHO
Hansi Kürsch - Blind Guardian, Demons&Wizards
Jorn Lande - Masterplan
Meat Loaf - That guy has an amazing voice !
Joacim Cans - Hammerfall
Udo Dirkschneider - Accept :D Old school
Timo Koltipelto - Stratovarius
Eric Adams - Manowar
Michael Kiske - Helloween, Keeper of the Seven Keys was an amazing album ! I like him better than Kai Hansen
Little Richard :D

Thats all I remember now, hope some more guys post, I'm always looking for cool music to check out

Freddie Mercury for the win.

Also Maynard James Keenan if you please.

Jack White

Chris Cornell

Forgot Michael Poulsen - Volbeat, I feel bad now, because they're one of my favorite Bands

Layne Staley
Bruce Dickinson
Ronnie James Dio
Michael Poulsen
Aaron Lewis
Corey Taylor
Eddie Vedder
Chris Cornell
Robert Plant
Jim Morrison
Freddie Mercury

Forgive me!!!! How could I forget Robert Plant?
My favorite LZ song has to be "Baby Come On Home" though it never made a studio album until a compilation album in '93

For the repeats.

Robert Plant
Freddy Mercury
Axl Rose

Additions.

Bradley Nowell- Perhaps not the best vocalist, but his passion flows through his words.
Jimi Hendrix- Does it ALL!
David Gilmore and Roger Waters- Compliment each other very well. Their lyrics are poetry.
Jeff Lynne- Smooth with great range and rocks out when he wants to.

Great tread! Let's keep it rockin n rollin!

It's all coming back to me now...
Steve Perry - Journey
Steven Tyler - Aerosmith
Dee Snyder - Twisted Sister
Ozzy Osbourne - Not the greatest singer, but tried hard and sang with emotion
The lead singer of the Scorpions...his name escapes me for now

Although current singers, I'm really liking Myles Kennedy and M. Shadows of Avenged 7 Fold.

Geoff Tate of Queensreight was great before he blew his voice out.

Roget Daltry of The Who.

Eddie Vedder is a personal favorite, but I have to say Cornell and Gillan top the list.

Freddy Mercury
Steve Perry
Robert Plant
Eddie Vedder
Steve Winwood (Blind Faith)
Axl Rose, although his voice is shot now
These guys are indisputable to me

Honorable mentions are
Chris Cornell
David Gilmore always gets me on On the turning away, plus his strat work just sings
Aaron Lewis from Staind
Ann Wilson (Heart)
Amy Lee

"Eddie Vedder is a personal favorite, but I have to say Cornell and Gillan top the list."

The thing that amazes me about C Cornell is that he has power throughout his entire range and makes it seem effortless. Sometimes I'll even replay certain parts of songs while driving and think to myself "who even thinks to attempt a note line that?" Or "how does someone realize they can do that?"

Perfect examples are:
Smokestack Lightning (3:40 is the good part)
Beyond The Wheel
Jesus Christ Pose
New Damage
Birth Ritual (EPIC IF YOU'VE NEVER HEARD IT BEFORE)
Cold Bitch ("SEE ABOVE")
Just to name a few....

My name is Mike and I'm a Cornell-A-Holic.

The short list

Ann Wilson
Jon Anderson
Robert Plant
Captain Beefheart
Napolean Murphy Brock
Chris Cornell

If you skim read that last line it could be misconstrued. :D

With all that praise I'll definitely give him a listen later.
