Rock Vocalists...

Someone just mentioned "both Van Halen frontmen" a few posts back. I like DLR a lot.

In no particular order . . .

Guys:
John Fogerty
David Gilmore
Udo Dirkschneider
Rob Halford
David Lee Roth (in his Van Halen days)
Ian Astbury (Cult)

Gals:
Ann Wilson (Heart)
Doro Pesh (Warlock)
Tarja Turunen - Nightwish isn't been the same without her.

Dave Grohl anyone? he is one of the best rock singers and also known as the nicest guy in rock'n'roll for so many reasons

Dave Grohl is another great one. Every time I hear "Monkey Wrench" it still amazes me. About 3/4 of the way through the song he unleashes about a 30-40 sec. verse without breathing and then still has enough in him to let out an epic rock scream!!!

How about the singer of Nazareth? The song most people are probably familiar with is "Love Hurts"

Yes on Peter Gabriel, solo career that is. I was going to argue for the traveling wilbury's but really only Orbison had any range. The other members did have unique voices though.

Do you prefer Bon Scott or Brian Johnson?

While I'm not really a fan, I haven't seen Sammy Hagar listed.

I wouldn't consider anyone of them exceptional vocalists, but they were/are phenomenal front men.

Not sure if Plant was mentioned, but he deserves it.I really like Vedder,Cornell & Maynard too!

^Dat harmonica solo...

Most of my favorites have been mentioned, but bear repeating.

1. Myles Kennedy-Alter Bridge
2. Brent Smith-Shinedown
3. Michael Paulson-Volbeat
4. M.Shadows-Avenged Sevenfold
5. Geoff Tate-Queensryche
6. Lajon Witherspoon-Sevendust

I'm going to throw in a few different choices to some of the great's already listed.
Geddy Lee...I'm a Rush fan, what can I say?
Mark Sandman from Morphine.
Brendan Perry from Dead Can Dance.
Eric Bloom from Blue Oyster Cult.
Jon Anderson from Yes.

Wow, lots of great names mentioned already. Here's a few more to consider:

Bono (U2)
Sammy Hagar (Van Halen)
Van Morrison
Joe Cocker
Burton Cummings (Guess Who)
Scott Weiland (STP)
James Hetfield (Metallica)

Steven Tyler, Jagger, Springsteen, Sting..... Oh man, so many...

Anyone know who the singer from Triumph is?
Rik Emmett.
From watching videos, it appears as if Triumph was practically a one-man band. Not to diminish the drummer and bass player (whoever they are), but Rik Emmett played both lead guitar and rhythm (double-neck), and sang.

Favorite male rock band singer is Lou Gramm.

Female singer, hands-down, Stevie Nicks.

Christine McVie was not too shabby either. What a band!

Guess that depends on your "rock" and the vocals you like.
1: Brian Johnson (AC/DC)
2. Phil Anselmo (Pantera) even though he's a goofball
3. Ronnie James Dio
4. Amy Lee (Evanescence)
5. Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)

I'm with JRT357's picks - Vedder, Cornell, Plant, and if you haven't heard Maynard James Keenan, check out Bohemian Rhapsody live with his vocals. Side note, nobody can beat the hell out of those drums like Bohnam on Nobody's Fault...amazing to watch/listen, I wish I could have been there!
