The store clerks over here usually don't even say that. That isn't an excuse to not throat-punch them though.
I know, they have no way of knowing what my day was like which is why I didn't do or say anything to her. This one asked how I was doing and when I said "not good" she prodded further even though it should have been painfully obvious not to.
Last night on shift one of my co-workers collapsed and died. He was one of those cheery guys that is friends with everybody and really brightens the place up, so pretty much everyone isn't taking the news well. To make matters worse he was only about 40 years old with a wife and four kids.
Guys, in lieu of sympathy for his family and friends do yourselves a favor and make sure all your affairs are in order. A will, plenty of life insurance, money in the bank, whatever. You don't want your family worrying about money and things while they're also trying to cope if the worst should happen. Luckily we get full benefits at my job including life insurance and tax-deferred retirement account so his family should be covered financially. Might also be a good idea, if you have a collection of anything like expensive knives or coins or anything of value, to inventory it with approximate values so your family can get a fair price if they have to sell it off right away. I heard of one guy that had made a deal in advance with his favorite local gun dealer so that if he died all his wife had to do was bring the guns in and he would give her a pre-determined price for everything right then and there. Doesn't seem like I need to remind any of you good folks to actually spend time with your families, judging from all the pics on here. So just keep that up.
