Thanks to Vince at Fort Henry and and assist from bravodelta I am now the proud owner of a Rockstead Higo DLC. Just received it today and this knife is scary. Gonna have to get used to a blade that'll make you bleed if you look at it wrong...

Oh man, that is one of my "grails".. and I hate to use that word but I suppose it is fitting... What is the RC on that badboy, like 68-70??? Curious how the action and lock is on it. Enjoy your mistress :)

I was just searching the web to mabye buy one then I saw the price I think I'll stick with benchmade until I get a better job.

Rockwell Hardness is 64.1. Super smooth and the lock up is like a bank vault.

What's the point of the hole/fuller in the blade ?

And why this blade shape/grind if it's supposed to be a slicer ?

A full flat ground with more belly would be better for this kind of tasks. Really can't understand why people like this design, seems like Rockstead edge retention is the main advantage but then it must be a nightmare to sharpen...

They look sharp, but the overall aesthetics don't do much for me. Guess it's just personal preference. I've looked at them on Fort Henry's site. Enjoy your new knife, though.

The hole is just aesthetic. The blade shape is supposed to mimic the blade shape of a traditional samurai sword. Don't know if this is a better slicer than flat ground but I think we all know that the samurai sword is a good slicer. have you seen the video of the Rockstead chopping clean through live bamboo? That's a slicer...

I'll just strop it as recommended and if it ever needs sharpening I'll use the paper wheel to touch it up. If it ever really needs sharpening I'll send it to Rockstead that provides sharpening for free.

Beautiful knife Maprik; I'm officially jealous! Rocksteads are definitely a grail for me as I really like the look of em and the steel performance doesn't seem too bad either...;)

Does that beast have a steel insert on the framelock?

Edit: Ignore that, re-educated.

Hehe :D been my grail since I first saw it posted awhile back! I think it's the mirror polished bevels that draw me, gotta learn how to do that so cleanly! And the one with the stingray inlays is very attractive imho.

The only one that tempts me is the Chi, with a solid ZDP-189 blade. But I have to get used to the aesthetics.

Ah God! No whatever you do not paper wheels haha, just try a nice stropping compound, if it get's dull, on leather, paper wheels will mess up your HT quick if you're not constantly moving the edge, and it's easy to mess up.

the paper wheel will not mess up the ht. you listen to too many people that dont know what they are talking about :D i have a rockstead like the one that hsc3_90293 has and all it needed was buffed to get it back to shaving sharp and it did not hurt the ht.

maprik, from what i have seen of the rockstead i was sent, i'm sure you'll like it. where did you hear that rockwell will sharpen it for free? do you mean rockstead?

Richard J - Rockstead will sharpen lifetime for free. Round-trip shipping to Japan is $30 each way.
