Rockstead Higo YXR7 DLC Pix

I strop starting with the highest part of the convex on the denim and then slowly curve it to meet the edge until the edge is just dragging or "catching," when dust starts kicking up onto the blade. I like to hit the whole side just because it cleans up any marks that appear in the surface of the DLC. I don't think it's necessary but I like to clean it up so it's good looking :)

I don't know about rust resistance, I think 's is a DLC blade also. He uses his in the kitchen and everything and I don't believe he's had any issues with stains. He's had his much longer than I've had mine.

Thanks for all the information. I'm getting less worried about using mine now when I get back home from my vacation. Will take pictures and post when I get back home.

Btw which pikal product do you use and where can I order with international shipping? How do you apply the polish and do you let it rest for a while before you strop?

Pikal? I wish. Maybe you can find some available near you but I gave up that search long ago. I use good 'ole Brasso

Okay, I took some pics so I could try to show you how the edge gets "dull" but it's an iPhone so they turned out like what you would expect: crap...

Here it is in all it's dirty glory

And this is after about 2 minutes of pretty good stropping, you can see theres still a bit of tape goober left on one side but everything else that looked like scratches and most of the dulling is gone.

I tried getting it to show up, but my phone won't focus, there always appears to be some damage to the DLC along the edge and I'm always worried that it's getting trashed, and it always cleans up :)

You can also see that the black anodizing on the duraluminum doesn't hold up as well as the blade and is starting to show some wear near the edges and on the pocket clip :)

Brasso, is that some kind of metal polish? Nice pictures, the blade looks like new after stropping. The handle seems to be the part that is the less wear resistance on the knife.

Is that a factory grind? I thought they were all convexed with some that were ...compound convexed (not sure I got the terminology right on that one haha).

Want one soooo badly, and curious how it compares to a convex ground spyderco in zdp.

yes this is a factory grind, this is a 2011 model so before the Higo went to a Honzukuri grind,
My newer Higo Ironwood has the Honzukuri grind

What's the point of the hole/fuller in the blade ?

And why this blade shape/grind if it's supposed to be a slicer ?

A full flat ground with more belly would be better for this kind of tasks. Really can't understand why people like this design, seems like Rockstead edge retention is the main advantage but then it must be a nightmare to sharpen...
Looks like they tried for a modern twist on a traditional tanto. Definitely more of a defensive EDC than anything else. I like the blade shape very much, I don't quite understand the hole in the blood groove of the blade either. Maybe to show off?

I've heard the hole is used to mount the blade in the vibralapping machine and the fuller softens the look. Just what I've heard mind u, but explanation makes sense to me so I'll go with it

no, their is a mark on the blade at the heel near the edge of the handle which indicates the hardness testing
