Is that a factory grind? I thought they were all convexed with some that were ...compound convexed (not sure I got the terminology right on that one haha).

Want one soooo badly, and curious how it compares to a convex ground spyderco in zdp.

Been thinking of grabbing one of their knives for awhile now. Think im gonna pull the trigger. Thinking of the HIGO-JH-ZDP! Richard J will be my preferred method of sharpening, as always! :D

I dig the YXR7 as it isn't as chippy from what I've read. They say its a bit better for harder chores.

I've been looking at the Higo also. Coincidentally its also the cheapest…

Beautiful blade! I keep reading that it is scary sharp out of the box, but I wondered how sharp is scary sharp. Also what kind of edge finish does it have out of the box?

In my experience, the edge is flawless out of the box with a perfect mirror polish. People keep saying scary sharp and I have no other way to describe it other than "scalpel" like.

It can not just cut, but "shave" paper beyond any knife in my experience.

Thanks, can it whittle hairs?

Nope no problems at all.

nope, I've been carrying a Higo with DLC for like... 4 months? I don't really do anything to maintain it other than a quick strop once a week like they recommend. I haven't had any problems with the blade, you can't even tell I've used it :)

What do you do to prevent stains and rust on the blade?
Thanks

Nothing :)

I know that sounds like I'm being a smarta$$ but I'm really not doing anything to prevent stains or rust. If I wash it real good, sometimes I hit it with some 3/1 oil but that's pretty rare (like one time actually). I haven't stropped it in about a month and it is just now getting to the point where you can perceive that it's getting "dull." Everytime I use it it looks like the DLC is getting scratched up, but after every strop it looks brand new :D

Has yours been having issues? Id really like to see some pictures if you are in fact having a problem with rust or staining, it may be a defect or something

When you strop the knife, do you let the whole side of the blade hit the denim strop with metal polish, kinda polishing the whole both sides of the blade or do you strop at angle and only strop the edge?

Nah I haven't had any problems with the knife so far. But I'm getting worried that I can't use it as much as I would like without defecting the knife. Also since its not stainless I'm very worried that it will get rust stains if I wouldn't keep it super clean all the time.

But I'm probably wrong and making a big deal out of it.

I strop starting with the highest part of the convex on the denim and then slowly curve it to meet the edge until the edge is just dragging or "catching," when dust starts kicking up onto the blade. I like to hit the whole side just because it cleans up any marks that appear in the surface of the DLC. I don't think it's necessary but I like to clean it up so it's good looking :)

I don't know about rust resistance, I think
's is a DLC blade also. He uses his in the kitchen and everything and I don't believe he's had any issues with stains. He's had his much longer than I've had mine.

I've spent a couple of days watching a lot of youtube reviews and reading up on the rockstead knives. It really has me intrigued but I just can't get over the fact that it LOOKS like an ordinary production knife. I'm sure I'll eventually cave and end up with one though. :D

Once you have one in your hand, I am sure you will see why it is NOT an ordinary production knife :D I look forward to hearing your impressions ;) :D
