Rockstead Higo YXR7 DLC Pix

Ah God! No whatever you do not paper wheels haha, just try a nice stropping compound, if it get's dull, on leather, paper wheels will mess up your HT quick if you're not constantly moving the edge, and it's easy to mess up.

I'm really curious as to why you would think that. I can't imagine the wheels ever getting a blade hot enough to bother the heat treat in any way.
I do know for a fact that they can get a Rockstead incredibly sharp though.

Richard J - Rockstead will sharpen lifetime for free. Round-trip shipping to Japan is $30 each way.
maprik said it was rockwell that would do the sharpening for free. he must have been thinking rockwell as in rc hardness when he posted that :D.

Hmm I've talked with a few local sharpeners (maybe that's my problem) who've said it was a capital BAD IDEA to use a paper wheel because it heats up so fast, guess I should've looked before I leapt so-to speak :foot: In my experience the paper wheel did...meh...but I've only used it twice and I imagine it takes practice, I did get a nice discoloration in my blade though  which (so I thought) confirmed what I heard about the HT being ruined.

I'll have to do my research and sorry for the ignorance haha :D thanks much guys! ^That edge looks spectacular!

Definitely grail status. I remember first seeing Rocksteads like a year or so ago and just being floored by them. I need one... One day.

That's what I was thinking too...

Following links posted in the past from waterbeef via direct link and image linking from his touting of fake wares I did find several counterfeit Rockstead blades.

Sorry to bring this up in what was an awesome post.

I am sorry for still not quite following zealish .
I beg your pardon and would you repeat that again, and again ,and agian?

Your digs, insults and racism are not tolerated in the forum, if you want to insult members go to W&C

The hole is just aesthetic. The blade shape is supposed to mimic the blade shape of a traditional samurai sword. Don't know if this is a better slicer than flat ground but I think we all know that the samurai sword is a good slicer. have you seen the video of the Rockstead chopping clean through live bamboo? That's a slicer...

I'll just strop it as recommended and if it ever needs sharpening I'll use the paper wheel to touch it up. If it ever really needs sharpening I'll send it to Rockwell that provides sharpening for free.

It's not the balde shape but the way of grind is to mimic a traditional samurai sword.
The way of grind for the Rockstead is called "蛤刃" in both japanese and chinese language.

蛤刃 means clam blade

The following image shows how the clam blade is made

This could be a part of what the money goes for.

Only very skilled craftsman can grind the clam blade perfectly.
So resharpening the Rockstead by yourself may ruin the perfect original clam blade.
That one of the reasons why I don't have such a knife.

The knife is a Svord from NEW ZEALAND.

The paper wheel wouldnt be removing enough material to change the shape of the bevel. Not if you just did 2-3 passes to get the edge back. But again, I plan on using the denim strop as Rockstead recommends to keep the edge.
