Rockstead Knowledge Thread

Pics for enjoyment:)

Note: I don't know why my pics show up so different looking than on my computer. I blame photobucket:D

It has to be Shinogizukuri, here's a pic to see the differences. I mis-spoke earlier, yours is supposed to be Shinogizukuri.

Notice how the one on the left has 2 different bevels and the one on their right has one bevel.

Ah gotcha, that does add a bit of spice to the blade doesn't.

I'm not sure, I like both grinds. But, for some reason I like Shinogizukuri just a little bit more::D

Try both out for yourself, and let us know what you think;):p

If anyone is interested, KnifeCenter has the new RYO-H-ZDP in stock and HIGO-J-ZDP's are back in stock.

I've seriously been considering getting a leather sheath for my Chi. I know it's a pocket knife but I don't generally like to carry a lot of things in my pockets. Anybody have any suggestions as to where I can find a fairly nice leather sheath. I've also been considering getting a lanyard as well, anybody have any recommendations where I can find some nice lanyards?

Thanks for the heads up Rob!

I want the Ryo, but I don't think I'd like the clip on it. I almost think I'd have to clip it "backwards", and that would be awkward:(

Hit up Gary Graley here on this forum for some leather work. Or try making one yourself. I've been making my own sheaths for a few months now, it's not that hard. It just takes patience.

As for a lanyard/fob, are you talking about a bead? Personally, I would suggest a strand of leather just to keep it classy. I did this on one of my other knives and wrapped some copper wire around it for aesthetics. On the same knife I put a Sebenza spacer on previously.

Yeah, unfortunately I lack patience and creativity. Thanks for the recommendation, I may have to contact Gary. Your probably right about the lanyard. I've been looking at various beads, but I've yet to decide what I want to do yet.

No problem!

Keep in mind that some of the titanium/pewter/steel/etc. beads are quite heavy and tend to flop around and ding up the handle and clip. I went through a phase of "skull" beads, and they are quite clumsy when in use. Not to mention, they look quite tacky imo. I'd hate to see that Chi get all beat up from a little bead!

Ah, thanks. Yeah I don't really want to inflect any unnecessary wear and tear. Although I have been looking at some of those skulls I still want to keep it classy as well, so I still haven't made up my mind what if anything I want to do. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

One thing you may want to do on your lanyard/bead is to whip the two strands together, this will help prevent the lanyard/bead from flopping around and possibly getting into the path of the blade and also restrict the movement that it may help cut down on any banging to the handle too.

Check this thread Here for instructions I know it has paracord but the whipping would work for any lines that you want to bring together.

And Blues, thanks for the nod ;)

Gary, quick question and I'll probably email you later, but would you need me to send my knife in order to make a sheath for a Rockstead Chi?

For the style of sheaths I make I would require the knife as they are very form fitted to each folder. And yes, email would be better but the answer may be something others might wonder about concerning Rockstead folders. There are others that might be able to make you a sheath that is more pouch like with a flap closure that would work pretty nice too, checking in the leather area of the forum you will find at the top a Sticky thread with several excellent makers that may be able to help so you wouldn't need to send your knife.
See that thread here

Gary,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll have to give it some consideration and get back with you.
