Rockstead Knowledge Thread

Hello all,
I will be getting the Higo II zdp189 for Christmas. I have always been drawn to this blade steelonthis knife- it speaks Japanese sword to me. I am not a heavy user on my knives but I am concerned about chipping after reading here. Usually open boxes, envelopes, cut plastic straps on shipping boxes,etc. Is there anything I need to avoid to not get chipping? For example If I hand it to my wife to cut food on a wooden chopping block will that cause chipping?

Any advise on what not to do is appreciated

I used my ZDP-189 Higo-x for all those things with no problems:thumbsup:

ZDP is not prone to chipping when properly heat treated.

I thought that Rockstead only did their chopping demonstrations with the DLC blades. On this video at about the 3:00 mark I could swear he is chopping with the Higo ZDP189. Am I mistaken?

Hard to tell for sure...but it looks like an uncoated blade, for what that's worth.
 
I ordered my knife directly from Rockstead. It shipped yesterday via FedEx. I checked it earlier and it was in Anchorage. Now I see this when I track it. Any idea what’s going on?

It means that Rockstead gave no description of your item for customs (something they require) and it is up to them to reach out and clarify what the goods are.

Do I need to contact Anton at JTC or will Fedex contact him for needed info?

Thank you for the help. I have bought other things from Japan but this has never happened before

You shouldn’t need to contact anyone if the shipper put their own contact info on the package; customs will contact them first.

Again, this is assuming Rockstead put all the right info. If they didn’t, I’m not sure what will happen. And FYI- Rockstead does not care about your knife.

Got it from Rockstead Shop(JTC) after confirming with Rockstead that they are their official dealer.

What exactly is the relationship between JTC and ROCKSTEAD?

See? Told you they don’t care about your knife. I’d tape a stamp directly to the box, send it back, and tell those jokers to keep it.
