RODENT SOLUTION, my first non-ESEE knife.

LOL is that a drawer full of knives??? I havn't gone that far yet, but do have a pelican case full of them in the works!

Ratweiler is the 'small' one at the bottom :D:

The old school ones were differentially heat treated, the new ones will not be.

Noob question here then, what does the heat treatment do? Is it a "better" knife the new or old way?

Heat treatment gives steel the hardness/toughness.
The general performance of the knife will not be much different between DHT or a through hardened blade. DHT will have an edge in more extreme situations.
The general preference expressed in the forums is that most users prefer DHT, however Swamp has done testing enough to decide that performance differences are too negligible to justify the more expensive DHT process.

Its a knife display case, with a glass shadow box top. every drawer locks. I just LOVE IT!! It was a gift from the wife when she seen i was getting serious with knives. It cost like 270ish when she got it for me but its been on sale for 229 for a while. Im thinking of getting another :) I love it, it makes me appreciate the knives even more as I cant walk by without stopping to stare for a minute and just appreciate them.

SR-101 doesn't usually chip, it primarily gets damaged through deformation. It will usually require you to remove a good amount of metal to repair as you generally can't just steel it back into place as easily as you could with INFI. 1095 will be much more likely to chip if it is at the same hardness as SR-101, but companies like ESEE run their 1095 at a lower hardness to reduce this tendency.

The Ratmandu will be my next buy (unless the SYKCO 411 becomes available). So this may be a biased place to ask this but here goes: How prone is this steel to "chipping" and "rolling" compared to 1095? I ask for 2 reasons. The first is that on the ESEE Forums there is a post about the Junglas and Ratmandu where the RMD has problems in a "hard-use" role. The second is that having used my 1095 blades on the trail and camp I haven't had any issues. I'm not sure of the rule here so I won't post a link to another forum but google "Ratmandu review" it is the link right under the first YouTube selection.

On another note, the Swamp Warden I picked up from Trident777 came in today! I currently have the ESKABAR in my EDC pack. Or should I say used to? The handle is just the right amount of longer and the feel is perfect with the 550 cord. Guess the BK-14 goes into storage lol. Now the RS needs to show up!

Rowen (makes ESEE knives) heat treats his 1095 to 57 HRC the Swamp normally runs SR101 at 59. With this you get trade offs the 1095 will be much easier to sharpen on the fly (flat river rock for example) and the SR101 will holds its edge a good bit longer. SR101 will also be more likely to chip out than the 1095 will. Both of these steels Rowen 1095 and Swamp Rat 52100 are more steel than 99% of people will ever need both companies make fantastic products and stand behind those products. I personally don't favor one or the other because if someone told me I could only ever have two fixed blades again they would be an ESEE 3 (only because I cant get a RS in 1/8 inch stock) and a Ratmandu.

You will be doing your knife collection a great disservice if you don't get the RMD it really is just that good.

RMD is a buy it looks like. Is it really that much better than the Rodent 5 or 6 though?

IMO this is what the R6 should have been from the factory. Not top guard and a drop point mmmmmm.

Nothing.....What am I missing?

Your membership is not active yet, I see no option for PM's yet. Have faith, it'll get done. :)

EDIT: and that drop point 6..... too sexy. I am in major want.

SHHHH... I have one in the works already ordered!!!!

And I have a rodent 6 going to be modded to that drop point above :)
