Room for improvement?

Do we like that this forum is the sole property, intellectual or otherwise, of one individual? Is it inconceivable it might be sold, shut down, or archives lost? I would be happy for someone to address this issue.
Les is gone because he offended someone. Any of us could offend the other, or an inactive or uninformed moderator. Do we like this level of censorship? it may go against free-exchange of thoughts and ideas, though i agree we should all try our best to remain respectful.

I would like a shared ownership, and members can be joint "owners". Is that a Cooperative? . One man shouldnt have the unlimited power to rule the forum, if you ask my opinion on the subject. It is too big, with too much at stake for the purposes of history and the genre itself.

David, it's Kevin's Forum, he can do whatever he wants with it. Personally I feel he does an good job manageing it.

David, Les is gone because he offended someone? Les is gone because he offended quite a few people, and was given multiple chances.

Strange post for someone who has been here as long as you.

BFC is private property, whether you like it or not. Your membership here is purely voluntary, as long as you don't get booted for breaking the terms of your sign-up agreement.

What part of this gives you the right, even moral, to want shared ownership?

COLLECTIVE DIVERSITY
the cornerstone of any successful forum

I feel that if a new knifemaker or collector asks for critique, encouragement, advice, it is fine to offer,
its all in the way that we deliver this constructive critique that makes all the difference.

I see a plethora of knives that are posted here that are not my cup of tea but still enjoy looking at all the trends developing and encourage all to share.
I see no valid reason to disembowel the poor guy that is just kindly asking for advice or just sharing his latest purchase.

(I am Dan Favano and I approve this message)

I agree!

I put in my two cents earlier, when I mentioned that Joe's post here made the most sense to me. Now I must give credit where credit is due, for the post that makes the least sense, at least IMHO.:jerkit:

"One man shouldn't(sic) have the unlimited power to rule the forum, if you ask my opinion on the subject..."

No one asked... ;)

David, (2knife), I think the solution to your dilemma is to pony up the VERY sizable investment that a web site like this costs and then turn over complete control of YOUR web site to a bunch of Yahoos like us. Surely you realize you are welcomed any where here on BF by invitation, right?

And if a second opinion is necessary, then my second opinion is that Betzner nailed his assessment of the value of your post.

You know how to find me.

This forum, along with the internet in general, has been a wealth of information. It is the best place available to talk and learn about knives.

Just as there are differences of opinions about ANYTHING, as STeven noted, when there are multiple people involved, the same scenario exists within this thread.

The opinions presented by Joe, STeven and Coop make sense to me. I do not have formal training in knifemaking, metallurgy or fighting with weapons. If I like something I say so, but found if critique is not requested, it is best to say nothing as opposed to negative comments. My opinions are simply that...an opinion, and everyone is entitled to have their own without fear of starting a feud by expressing it.

As others have also noted and mentioned recently, "pappy" Long sets a GREAT example on conducting oneself with integrity.

I have been a member for years and sometimes forget to reup on my paid but I always get around to it again.
I like this forum, I like the critique from knowledgable people that I know of.
When i wanted to make a chef knife I posted it here and asked for critiques. I expected it and was married before so there is nothing that could have been said that hurt my feelings. I got good feedback enough so that I changed a couple of things and yes, it was better. If I wanted hear all nice things I would ask my grand daughters. I still use this place to learn.

What censorship? Please show an example. Members either follow the rules or they don't. The rules are set by the person who owns the site. Les wasn't banned by an inactive or uninformed moderator. He was banned by Spark. This isn't a cooperative. It is a privately owned site cut and dry.

Additionally, this thread doesn't belong in this forum as it has nothing to do with custom or handmade knives. I'm moving this to Tech Support.

Only one person was talking censorship. Everyone else was talking support for this thread and this forum. You are doing a dis-service to this Customs crowd by moving this thread.

You're right and I had moved it back right before you made your post. Thanks. However, this thread is starting to stray into overall site comments that go beyond the Custom forum. This conversation should stay focused the initial post if it is going to stay in this forum.

David's not the devil, he just stepped in a pile. I've done it too, maybe not with such a spectacular display of 'DUH!', but we've all had our moments :).
Morrow, thanks for being here. I'm glad this thread has attracted a wider range of interest, even if for the wrong reason.

I feel that custom knives are the vanguard of everything else cutlery related, and I view this forum in the same light. I know that there is lots of quality and depth to Bladeforums overall, especially in the Cove (lol), but I think that this particular subforum helps to set Bladeforums apart on a more esoteric level from other cutlery oriented forums out there that I know of.

Maybe basic memberships could be discounted for like the first 10 people every month  you know, for promotional reasons.

Edit... I know there 10 bucks, now I feel obligated because I feel like a cheep scape.

Im sorry if my comment was offensive, or stupid. We all share in this site, being here. It makes more sense to have a sharing of ownership, such as a Coop would have with those who benefit,.. (Imho) We have no rights, nor expressed interests in the future of this forum, nor a voice to say what may (or may never) happen. That is all im saying. Otherwise, im fine with the way it runs. No more gripes! My apologies to the powers that be.
David

We cannot announce major knife auctions, due to "auction spotting" rule. It is an infraction.
David

David, you are talking about a Blade Forums rule, not censorship. There are plenty of other places to make every kind of announcement you want on Blade Forums, instead of bitching about this one thing here. Personally, IMHO you are way off base and, frankly, probably close to getting this thread moved away - which works to everyone's dis-service if it happens. Give it up.

Bob,
Im done. I just wanted to get these ideas out. It is the purpose of this thread, or no? Anyway..
