RoseCraft Knives

The jack knife just got here. Everything is good with it, but I'm not digging the color variation of the bone. If it was more gradual, it'd be OK. But at the bottom its pretty pronounced. It looks like a bright stripe in middle of darker bone. The back looks good and there's no gaps anywhere. I'm just nitpicking I guess. Just wanted to post just in case some are contemplating picking one up.

The bone is pretty flecked but I like it, the pull is 5+ and the walk and talk is great, snappier than my recent case, more like an ohio river jack.

No gaps, I have a pic of the centering but that is good also. Pins and bolsters are flush, really good fit and finish.

Side by side with case sod buster junior for size comparison because that's what I put in my pocket this morning. Just a bit shorter and also wider at the barehead end.

I'll carry it for two weeks and maybe update if there is anything really good or really bad, but so far I think it is going to be a good user&gentlemans knife.

Cheers,

I bought a couple to try.... The apex of the cutting edge(s) is dead smooth, like a razor... No play, gaps, proud tips, blades rapping(has over-travel stop pins), wobbles, or other brow furrowing concerns.... F&F is 5 star..... Well designed..... Reminds me of Civivi knives....

Only critique is the long pull is rounded in the root of it's depth.... Thumbnail tend to lose it's purchase... A sharper sided pull would be preferable by me......

Didn't think it would happen so fast, but I just paid the invoice on a Rosecraft Blades Beaver Creek Barlow. Looks like they're on the brand's site as well as at least one retailer so far.

That'll bring my Rosecraft collection to five pieces and I can only hope that the newest addition will be as solid as the rest!

Now, if they'd just push out a few models in a steel that patinas more eagerly than D2...

I was surprised to learn he Appalachian Jack is an old design, the pry tip used for opening nailed lids on cigar boxes and tin lids. I'd never seen that design on a traditional knife.
Thanks for the intel.

May I ask where you found the info? I'd like to find out more.

It’s very similar to an old George Wostenholm I*XL 1534 pattern (has a spear instead of a clip). Rosecraft shows the comparison on the website. There were hundreds of patterns by the old Sheffield companies that have vanished over the years.
Awesome, thanks! I'll check that out. I think Rosecraft put thought into the design and finishing off the pry section. Functional for it's intent and smooth enough to ride in the pocket without poking holes. 👍

Thanks Dan ...it was a spur of the moment thing...I ingeniously decided to get 2 and only pay 1x international postage...MUUUHHAAHA A HA..A HEH...That'll show 'em.
