Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

Thank you, I really like the setup of this knife, I've always loved stockmen and adding a screwdriver/bottle opener seems like an idea that should have been thought of years ago. I look forward to seeing it!

Here are some pics I just took of both the Stockman and the Scout. You can see how the blade configuration is while closed. Both are phenomenal. Props again to Last Rodeo for sending me this scout. I'm very grateful!

What is that model and handle material? I think I would like to order the exact knife if it is still available. Thanks in advance.

It's a Rough Rider One Arm Lockback Fold Knife, 440 SS razor blade, Red jigged bone handle KA16. Bought on Amazon for about $12.00

Please excuse my ignorance but what it the purpose of the blade shape?

I thought I've seen where the scoop at the tip can be used to one hand open the knife off the seem of your pocket, but I don't remember if that was this blade shape in particular or one similar.

Back in the day. The blade was designed to be opened by persons with only one hand. You catch the tip on the edge of your pocket and it opens up.

You earned it bud.

He sure did, Mike; that was a VERY entertaining photo of L.Bones in his Scout shirt! :D:D:thumbup: It was generous of you to issue your "incentivized challenge", Mike. ;)
And his photos of the RR "Beer Stockman" and the Scout are also very helpful; thanks, LaughingBones!:cool:

Thanks! I'm definitely sold on it now! I love the RR amber bone look.

While I'm here I might as well show off what I did to my Marbles cattle knife. The "red" jigged bone turned out to be pretty pink, so I tried to get it close to a Case my father gave me from the 70's. I'd say I did pretty good, I used brown Rit dye simmered on the stove. Sorry for the glare, I wasn't where I could take better pics.

FordRanger that cattle knife came out fantastic!

I own a bunch of rough riders and like them all. When I first started acquiring knives I bought them to try different patterns, and then I started collecting all of the pearl handled RR's I could find. This whittler in black lip pearl is my favorite of them all. Tight snap and I love the spearpoint. I only wish the scales were pinned on as I've already had to re-glue one that fell off of my pearl stockman. I'd happily pay a higher price for pinned scales.

Is there something about the pearl that prevents them from using pins? Most of the other RR pics in this thread show pinned scales.

I believe it's because the shell is prone to cracking and takes extra care. All of my non-pearl handled RR knives have pins, none of the pearl handled do.

Yup. You use pins, more handles crack, and I can't imagine RR would be willing to risk losing a scale for a pin that is largely aesthetic.

OK,I know this is for telling your experiences with rr,and related....I've been really happy with most
all the rough riders i've owned......
I have a question for whomever....

Is anyone familiar with the rr single blade copperhead?....Most of the ones i've seen are pearl, some with the abalone
oval for a badge.....They made a set of 2 Civil War versions.....One was grey, the other blue....Both had a circle with either
the confederate,or american flag inside a clear bubble.....I believe the names on blade was either U.S.Grant,or R.E.Lee?..
They also made a set of 2 Gunstock Trappers I think....Same color knives, had President Lincoln, and the other was diffrent..
The sets came in a hinged case......Similar to the Case sets....

I am asking if anyone here can take a picture of the set?...My White Pearl single blade Copperhead is one of my favorites....
It just feels (Bad to the Pearl) in hand.........
Thank you

Hi Sword & Shield, so you are saying that pins don't actually hold the scales on, glue does the majority of the work? I always thought the pins that are spun acted like rivets. I'm eager to learn more about knives and their construction, thx in advance for any info.

I have a RR Midnight Swirl Celluloid Standard Barlow which just has the scales glued on; no pins.

So did you add vinegar? And how long did you let the knife soak? Looks like it took really well. I tried some plastic/delrin/whatever Uncle Henry handle material and it had no effect at all.

Have you tried a perminate magic marker? I think that is the only thing that might stand a chance of changing an Old Timer/Uncle Henry cover. I don't know if it would rub or wear off though.

I didn't care for the delrin covers on my OT, so I have Glennbad work his magic on it.
