Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

Will post the model number and name later, but it's a pattern I'd never seen or heard of before, will post closer looks of these later this evening.
Thanks for the additional photos, ginnyroscoe; cool filework on those knives!
Is the canoe RR752? I sent you a visitor's message inquiring about where you obtained those beauties. ;)

^ I thought it came with machined "file work" , my mistake!

Whats the opinion on Bear MGC traditionals? I saw one of those one hand open knives modified into a clip on the for sale and was very curious about trying to make the mod too

I'm pretty sure that Bear MGC knives are made in the USA, but their quality is generally not quite on par with Rough Rider.

It's a shame, too. They are one of the few US cutlers making knives in carbon steel, but it is soft as butter, and the fit and finish is lacking. Maybe if you can pick one out in person, but I wouldn't recommend ordering one online.

Here's a better view from the rear of the amazing Rough Rider patteren

Anxiously awaiting model number and name.

MTURBO, I'm pretty sure it's a Rough Rider "Deluxe Large Canoe" in amber jigged bone, RR752. But so far my google-fu hasn't been strong enough to locate one that I can make my own. Very desirable gunboat, eh??

Thank you. I'm going to try and look one up.
I'm getting ready to branch out a bit on the RR patterns. For the last couple years I have only been buying the 4 1/8" Trappers and now after reading these pages for the last few days I have a 3" Whittler and the one posted above on my "to buy list".:)

Good luck! I hope you find one (and if you somehow find an entire fleet of those canoes, please let me know so I can try to grab one). If you do get one, it will probably make your full size RR trappers look small; I think that canoe is 4 5/8"!!

^ I had a bone RR trapper and felt that the handles were a bit more squared off but otherwise fairly comparable.

I received a RR camp knife with the red jigged bone the other day, once again very impressed with a ~$10 knife. The springs are a bit stout, especially on the bottle opener which I'd rate a 9 out of 10, but I really like this thing. A good bit of heft which I like, everything reasonably flush, very minimal gaps in the springs (honestly, my GEC #92 has larger gaps in the springs although the RR has a gap between the frame and cover on one spot). The awl is also great, extremely fine tip and nicely sharpened. Grinds on the main blade aren't perfect but at least it's sharp.

Heard some great things about them, and in spite of being made in China and stainless I figured I better try one. At the price, how could I go wrong? Worst case I give it to my nephew to annoy his mother :D

Paid a little more that the usual $10-$12 for this one because I really liked the checkered bone. Something like $16 :D

On the whole, I would have happily paid twice that for this knife, perhaps more. These are very well made, whoever runs that plant knows knives and actually cares about QC. I've seen Chinese stuff well made before, but never at such a low price.

My tastes usually run more to Bulldog and Boker, but I may buy a couple more of these, just because. After all, I can't give this one to my nephew now, I'll have to get one of their Barlows for that!

Beware. Their Barlow is another fantastic knife. Buy two, you'll want one for yourself.
Rough Riders are a wee bit addictive ...
(Oh, try their large sunfish. Another good EDC that vanishes in the pocket, despite the size.

I've been eyeing up the Dog Bone Muskrat for a couple weeks now. May have to pull the trigger here soon on one...
