Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

I was going to give someone else a turn to post in this thread before I jumped in again, but not much happening here at year end! ;) So here are 3 Rough Riders I bought in a Black Friday frenzy a month ago.
First up is a RR amber jigged bone peanut, my first of that pattern from RR. It seems to be an excellent knife.:thumbsup:

I also ordered a couple of RR's relatively new carbon steel knives with yellow synthetic covers. I'm ecstatic over these! :) Well-built, sharp out of the box, and whatever the carbon steel is (1095?) it patinas just as I had expected. Here's a carbon steel canoe:

Nice additions, GT, and I enjoyed the Start Wars backdrops.

My latest Rough Rider's fit'n'finish on all is excellent,as well as the walk'n'talk with the exception of the stockman. Finish is top notch but the spey and sheepsfoot tad weaker than I'd like. All three of the ones they had in stock felt exactly the same, and no different in finish aside from slight color variation in the bone.

I look at a number of them before I choose which ones to buy at that store. But what I have found in general is that there is considerable consistency between different knives with the same pattern and dress. Actually looking forward to my next store visit. I try to keep the visits to a couple times a year as I know what I do when I visit that store. The upside is that I get a couple knives that satisfy my buying urges and enjoy fondling them even if I don't use them.

Other than the name of the model (cotton sampler), what do you use it for?
Sorry if that is a dumb question, just I don't see the advantage in using this model.
I do like RR's and have about 20+ of them and older Colts, Marbles.

I bought this large stockman and 3-1/2" split back whittler in blue bone and they both have very tight back springs, can't see a bit of light. Both came pretty sharp and became very sharp quickly on fine rods. Got a Case seahorse in too and the RR's are both as good overall on fit and finish and a lot better on back spring gaps. Can't beat them for the cost.

Misplaced Hillbilly Misplaced Hillbilly Been trying to quote your post, but something up as only some of the pix come out:confused: then I could not get rid of the rest of the post ;)

Anyway, my incompetence I suppose...but I really like the look of that RR Small Cotton Sampler:cool: could be a handy little carry. Already searching the Bay for one:D

Thanks! It came scary sharp, and really good walk'n'talk. I use it the same as any small knife, but I think it would make a good small game knife. I've thought about putting an edge on the flat part of the blade. I may pick up another and give it a try. Another good thing about RR, their cheap enough to experiment on;)
