Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

Not that I know of right now...Smokey Mountain may be stock piling them so they can offer grab bags in the future...or QC may be getting better...lol...

Churn them out at RR's price point and amount, and there are going to be lots of seconds. I'll wager the grab bags will return.

I received these two RR's in good stead from Rupestris and I can't thank him enough for the kind donation. They are being gifted later this afternoon to a few lucky youngsters that are friends of my kids and will come in quite handy for they're whittling projects as well as some other cutting chores that are currently afoot..

These knives should serve quite nicely as these kids first slipjoint cutter's. I am looking forward to some toothy smiles from these young'ens this fine Christmas Day.

I will try to snag a kodak moment with them and they're new knives. :D

Many thanx again Rupestris. Merry Christmas my friend and to EVERYONE here!

I have been making some belt pouches for the bigger RR knives as well, one of these days I'll post some pics of my leather work. RR seems to be using a couple of new shields lately, my personal fav are the yellow comps with the old federal shield which always seems to be very cleanly inlaid. I've sold about 5 of the sodbusters and so far everyone likes them.
Best regards

Robin

Like this one?/ got it in the mail today....pretty nice...

I just got a new Copperhead folder. Yellow handle, with the shield. Great knife. I'll try to post pics soon. For $8.00, how can you possibly go wrong?

The main blade is 2 3/4" with 2 1/2" useful blade length, and the long clip secondary is about 1/8" shorter than that. Both blades are tight, with good snap, and the knife is well finished overall. Rough Rider seems to be steadily improving, and for my money they were pretty good to start with.

I bought my first R.R. hunter lovesess burl style last week. I was very happy with the full grind and razor sharp. I did restain the handles to darken them and it turned out very nicely. Killer loking knife. Herb

The drop point hunter is a beauty, a friend of mine borrowed mine and dressed three white tails with it, came back a bought 2 for he and his Son. I also re dyed the handles and made a good sheath for them, the nylon thing they come with is a piece of junk.
Regards

Robin

Please, I´d like to know more about that full grind: is it hollow or flat?
Thanks in advance.

Yes it came with a sheath if thats what you want to call it. Iv bought a few extra sheaths from carl thomas on ebay. he does a very good job on sheathes.

The thing that hurts is China is taking an American knifemaker like Bob Loveless and ripping him off. It says alot about his design though.

When it comes to knife design there's very little that's new under the sun. That said, I don't know that it should be considered any worse to have Asian manufacturers copying the Loveless model since virtually every other American and European maker (custom and production) has already done so. Let's try to keep politics and ethnicity from becoming an issue in this forum.

Did you buy it with nylon or leather sheath? I can't find any drop point hunter with leather sheath on ebay.

Bringing this thread back to life with a new Rough Rider I just bought. Yep it is another inexpensive (read $7.50 shipped) knife but one I am impressed with none the less. I originally wanted to buy some in a similar style from Herbertz for Christmas presents but could not find any in stock anywhere. Last week I was going through e-bay and say this knife...the Rough Rider Fat Boy. It's a stubby little button lock with thumbstuds and pocket clip. As you can see the blade has plenty of belly and the action is smooth and lock up is crisp. It was nicely sharp on arrival as are most Rough Riders but a few strokes on the white bars on my Spyderco Tri-Angle made it shaving sharp. On mine I removed the pocket clip and added an lanyard to use as a watch pocket knife. For the artsy folks here you can see what a canvas for art the wood makes on both sides. The wood itself is nicely figured and quite handsome. This one will enter the watch pocket rotation.
