Rough Ryder Reserve: New Premium Rough Ryder Line

This is the first "traditional" I've ever seen with a finger choil, which is a modern knife design element in my eyes. (Cue someone coming in to show an old Imperial or something with a choil). I know the 110s had a variant, but still. This just reads as a very modern knife to me.

I have one of these old Japanese Kershaw lockback lol! Pretty sure Rough Ryder made a version of it as well.

Just thinking out loud here, but to pry off a cap would you not be putting pressure on the handle in the direction that the knife closes?
Yep looks like it for sure. I guess you are only supposed to use the cap lifter when the blade is closed.

oh, before I forget- There's another issue to putting the bottle opener on the back of the blade. the blade can still be depressed further into the blade well- it's only spring tension that's keeping it in it's location. When you go to uncap a stiff bottle cap with that, you might end up leveraging the blade into it's own back spring.

I think the only safe way to actually use that bottle opener is with the blade closed. I wouldn't leverage on the back side of a blade with it open. That's like the exact opposite of how a cap lifter is configured.

I'm glad someone else is thinking about it, John. I had the same thought so I had to go back and look, and I realized that putting the cap lifter on the back on the blade is doubly bad.

Back springs are meant to stop blades as they pivot shut, not have additional force applied on them from cap lifters.

I seriously can't fathom a need for a finger choil on a folding knife. Heck I don't see a need on a fixed blade for that matter, but a sub 3 inch blade? Man I hope no.5 is something sensible. Maybe another blade option on the great EO frame, yeah like thats gonna happen

Considering the last knife I had with a bottle opener on the spine looked like this....

Lets just say it doesn't inspire a sense of quality to me.
By the way I was 10,Rambo was cool and I had several of those knife shaped objects because for some reason the blades kept breaking off with the slightest use.....
I know I aint the only one here either..o_O:p

I had that exact knife as a kid, gave it to my boy.

I think so as well. Looks like black micarta covers and 3.875 closed. I’m probably gonna pick one up as well. If the fit and finish (and price) is like the one arm model, then it should be very much to my liking.

I like that design a whole lot better.:thumbsup:
But given the self-destructive nature of their "micarta", I think I'll pass. ;)
Didn’t know their micarta was in the habit of self-destructing. Might pass too then. I like my micarta to be very nearly bullet proof.

can either of you direct me to anything that discusses this faulty micarta? I must have missed something.

Just looked at my black "micarta"work knife, definitely shrinking from the bolsters
I do like the look of this new reserve though, equal end moose with a clip and wharncliffe,:thumbsup:
Count me in although hopefully its a different "micarta" than the work knife:(
