Round up those Cattle Knives!!

Thanks for finding that old thread, Gev! It has some great knives in it.
Too bad the thread is like a cherished old wool blanket, that's been infested with PB moths!!

I've always liked cattle knives, though I only have a single Imperial. Strangely enough, that knife is a twin to one I lost out on in an auction, to you of all people. That was perhaps a dozen or so years ago, back when EBay showed a bidder's complete username. Before we even made each other's acquaintance you were already giving me lessons on the finer points of knife collecting...lol.

You wound up with a better one, as I recall!! You taught me patience as a virtue!!:)

A bit confused, they're Equal-End, but can they be Swell-Centre as well?

Thanks, Will

Bernie Levine says yes! I'll see if I can find one, Will!

I like cattle knives a lot , especially with a spear main. Hopefully Charlie will post his case cattle's. They're to die for

I'll post some more eventually, John!!

Charlie,it seems like we often have the same taste!(^_-)
I don't have one in hand yet......Are they often 3 5/8 inches closed?

3 5/8" is the most common size, Rambler. They go from 3 1/2" on up to quite huge!
Below 3 1/2" they are referred to as Junior Cattle knives.

I won't bore you all with my whole collection of GEC #53 stockman knives (which are really clip main cattle knives), but I will show a picture of the four stag bone ones they made. From left to right they are Green Mountain, Carved Pumpkin, River Blue, and Brimstone.

This ram's horn is a nice one too, to show the blades opened.

This little pre-war Keen Kutter is my oldest one, and it's a junior, at 3⅜" closed.

My biggest is a Tidioute #98, and it's a whopper at 4.8" closed. But man does it have a great, smooth action!

Here is my humpback, that Will mentioned earlier.

And these last two are probably my most representative of the pattern, both 3⅝" closed, one with a spey and the other a punch. The white bone is a Frank Buster Fight'n Rooster, and the bone stag is a Shapleigh; both are Solingen made.

A fine collection of Cattles, Jeff!

I had a Cline Stewart just like that one, Dave! In fact . . . . . . . . .:)

Nice Ryu Cattles friends!!

I don't know about the humpback, GT!

Thank you for the complements on the Ryu cattle knife, guys! Nice to see another Ryu also! I'm enjoying the photos of all these equal end and fancy cattle knives --both antique/vintage and new.

Nice to see them all gathering around the barn!!:D
Great bunch, Arathol! I am guessing that swell-center is a large one - how long Will?

One of these days I need to find one of the Kutmaster five or six bladed cattle knives; fascinating viewing the workmanship required fitting so many blades into such a compact space. I need to get a few more photos to Imgur; two juniors, one newer Case and an older Ulster, and one of the Queen Dan Burks. Traded off a Bulldog stag a few years ago in a moment of weakness.
